And now the WM Scenic RR Willl Restore a Mallet - ngauger - 05-07-2014 Since the Big Boy is gaining so much interest.... Great news for this grand lady! The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad announced today that it will acquire #1309, a C&O 2-6-6-2 mallet, and return the locomotive to operation. The 1309, the last domestic steam locomotive that Baldwin ever built, will be the first articulated locomotive in the east to be fired up since N&W #1218 last saw service two decades ago. http://www.railpictures.net/photo/480525 Re: And now the WM Scenic RR Willl Restore a Mallet - ezdays - 05-08-2014 That would be so cool to see that running and pulling a consist. I've seen passenger trains running on our local BNSF line, but have yet to see a steam loco running anywhere. We've been up to the Grand Canyon sever times on the GCRR, but they only use steam on special occasions now so we missed tha chance as well. Glad to see them preserving history like this though. I've seen 2...One here in Olmito a few miles up the road from Brownsville (TX). And the other one in San Luis Potosi in Mexico...I even got to ride in the cab as the engine was moved from the exhibit track to the engine house..About a 1/2 mile ride..!! Last time I was out that way I took the train up to the Grand Canyon. no steam, had to settle for a ride behind a "disesel " :o Re: And now the WM Scenic RR Willl Restore a Mallet - e-paw - 05-08-2014 I hope that there will be a way to see the work in progress.. It would be cool to watch. Our F-3b is in the paint booth as we speak. She is almost ready to make the trip down to North Carolina for the Streamliners convention. I think the paint will be drying in rout. Pic by R.J. |
