nachoman 2014 kitbash challenge - nachoman - 05-23-2014

I've got this small space near my dual gauge transfer yard that needs a small depot or station. I've got this box of leftover parts from previous kits, so I thought I could make something that looks good.

Well, I did get started. Decided half of the station would be a two-story affair, so I glued some walthers modular section leftovers together.

Some more progress. The tower is made from Walthers modular wall sections. The roof for the tower is leftover from an Atlas signal tower, from a challenge at the old site years ago. The "extension" is made from a few wall segments that were leftover from a Grandt Line "Reese Street Row Houses" kit. I added a door (that probably came from a MDC 3-in-1 kit) to one of the walls of the extension, and a roof made of styrene sheet. The platform is also from the Grand Line Reese Street kit.

Good way to use up some of those parts from the "Box of Mystery" I have a few old Walther's boxes full of walls parts and I have thought of creating some sort of monstrosity out of the, but I digress.

Although not a very big structure it has a defined purpose and a great little space to set the building in. I look forward to your progress!

I added some windows and doors from the scrap box, painted the siding and trim with 50 cent per bottle apple barrel paint from wally world.

Next up, painting and adding windows to the brick portion.

Promising structure there! I love the tower, it really have this fancy late 19th century look!

Some weekend work - windows, roof, chimney, gutters, and the platform.

The windows are all from the Walthers kit, but I was lacking one single door (not sure why, but I didn't have one left). So, I had to make one out of another window and a double door I had left over. The gutters are styrene channel, and the downspouts are brass wire. The platform I painted with thinned acrylic paint of various shades.

Looking good, Thumbsup somehow we always wind up short something. You'll find that door when you don't need it anymore. 357

That Atlas "roof" looked familiar.....
Like the way you are using kits for "other than their original purpose". I have a lot of fun with "kitbashing"
Here is the Atlas Signal Tower, with a "modification or two" as a bridge tender's tower:

Real nice job like that station Thumbsup

Re: nachoman 2014 kitbash challenge - nachoman - 07-10-2014

Here are two update cell-phone photos. I names the station "Guthrie" and made up a sign board using a custom printed decal and a scrap of styrene. I also found some Plastruct roof shingle material at the LHS and added it to the roof. Just a bit more work here, and this station will be complete.

Now with a roof over the whole things, window class, window shades, and glued to the platform. All that's left are details, LPBs, baggage, freight, etc.

Looking good Kevin!

Wow!!! I agree, I do like that. Thumbsup

Re: nachoman 2014 kitbash challenge - nachoman - 07-13-2014

After a few details added. I'm not sure what else to add after this. Maybe one more LPB, maybe some luggage or a luggage cart. I dunno.
