Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - AF350 - 06-18-2014 Thanks e-paw. Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - ezdays - 06-18-2014 Looking good... Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - AF350 - 06-18-2014 Thanks Ezdays. It is a fun challenge so far. Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - sailormatlac - 06-18-2014 Very neat structure... good old reverse engineering at its best! Matt Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - AF350 - 06-19-2014 Thanks everyone for the kind comments, I have amazed myself as far as how well it turned out so far. I still plan on lighting up the structure once completed and painted. The hole at the top of tower is for the buckets to fill up the tower, on the other side of the tower I still need to figure out a design for the shoot (I forgot to leave a hole there so I will model the door closed ) Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - AF350 - 06-19-2014 Here is the latest progress so far, one pic shows where I have deviated(on purpose) from the original design. Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - AF350 - 06-19-2014 And a tiny bit more progress plus a side by side pic of the coaling tower next to the 3D printed water tower just need a sand house an ash pit and maybe a two stall loco shed. Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - Ralph - 06-19-2014 Wow, you're moving right along! You're motivating me to get back to my challenge project!! Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - AF350 - 06-21-2014 Still a bit of construction yet to do on the tower, but decided to paint roofs so that when I apply the shingles no raw wood will show through any gaps if there are any. Also did a test coat of yellow paint on mechanical house will be trimmed in chocolate brown and so will the tower. Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - AF350 - 06-22-2014 I am not happy with the yellow paint may go with a brown mustard shade of yellow, right now it looks like a bumble bee or maybe powdered scrambled eggs...............hmmmmmmmmm that actually sounds good right about now Will work on the challenge tomorrow, too shaky to paint or cut wood at the moment, after running the machines at work for 7 hours when I get home I feel like I am still there. It is air conditioned so that helps a lot. And yes their shifts are typically only 7 hours long some times 3 normal shifts a day and an odd ball shift that over laps. Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - nachoman - 06-23-2014 WOW! Very nice work here! Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - AF350 - 06-23-2014 Well just a bit more progress today................ Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - AF350 - 06-23-2014 And some more............ I discovered an unintended feature of my structure, I can place the unloading side(loco side) too the left or the right of the door on the mechanical house making it more versatile when placing on a layout Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - AF350 - 06-24-2014 Well after playing with the light have decided to run the power to the lights around about 9 to 10 volts so that the light is not overpowering and out of scale, the lights are rated at 12 volts @ 30 ma. Still need to construct chain housing and wench mechanism housing portions, will also rig up an arm of sorts for lamps so they do not look like they are hanging by wires. Re: AF350's Scratchbuild 2014 summer challenge - BR60103 - 06-24-2014 AF: I'm powering some lights and a few other bits with the 9V batteries that we're supposed to change in our smoke detectors twice a year. |
