Crossover question - Rscott417 - 06-21-2014

Im looking to have a 2 track mainline that are 2 inches apart from the center of the ties with a runaround/crossover, what number turnouts would i need to keep the mainline tracks 2 inches apart? I have some extra #5s and thought about cutting back the curved track on both ends but doesn't seem like that will work.

The turnout number doesn't matter when making a Xover. Just put them both down on 2" center lines to figure out how much to cut off each diverging route. But the turnout # does matter as to the length of equipment that can run thru them. The lower the #, the shorter the equipment has to be.

Hi rscott, I used atlas #6 for this, prolly your #5s will be OK too. Like Andy said, just lay them down 2" apart, find the mid point, and trim off everything that interferes! Likely you want an insulated gap where they meet. Good luck! Thumbsup

Ok thank you, I wasn't sure cutting back the switches were going to work.
