Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - dbaker - 01-23-2015

"I'm back!" Took me a little longer than anticipated but made it. Spent the day at the Hospital, my wife had surgery. (She is going through the Breast Cancer issues.) Fortunately, she is REALLY doing well! Today was reconstruction, so she is well under way to beat this thing, another 6 months and should be out of the woods. Today's procedure went as expected, but a lot of activity at the hospital and it just took a long time.
And I haven't help much with my leg in a cast. (I fell out of the Steam Engine at Knott's Berry Farm, (amusement park). The engine is a DRG 2-8-0 Constillation. I had just finished filling the tender with water, and returned to the cab. There were two many people (lunch rotation) and I lost. Heel landed on the rail head, shattered my leg, now 4 operations and 18 months later I'm making progress but it has been slow.

Going to call it a day, later.

Morning all. Rain and more rain!!!!! Off to train show in Raleigh. Maybe some Train Box work later. Got to pickup a big roll of wire.

Good to see Shake and Bake [Don Baker] back. AS Paul Harvey use to say, "And now the rest of the story." Don is really in a cast this long because he can sit around in the train room and play instead of doing house chores his wife [Kay, a marvelous person] wants him to do. Icon_lol

Have a great weekend.

Good Morning Blue
Overcast and 30 degrees.
Snow is melting, we have dry pavement and some grass can be seen.
Of course all that means is before too long more will come and cover us up again.
A chat with the guys last night. No other train news from here.

Good morning all.

To Don Baker: (a). Glad, very glad to have you back. (b). Sorry to hear about what you've been going through. Glad to hear that your wife is doing as well as she is. Let's hope you follow and get that foot healed. Thumbsup

Just a bit chilly down here right now, there must be some new snow up north. Still we will top out close to 80 later today. All the weather people seem to be on the same page now. A good chance (50%) for Monday, a bit less for Tuesday. It might screw up some of the outdoor festivities for the Super Bowl, and definitely cause problems with the Phoenix Open golf tournament. That is, depending on which side of that 50% nature decides to chose. Icon_lol

And yeah, tomorrow is the Pro Bowl here, it hardly rates any time on the news or in the paper. If it wasn't for the Super Bowl thing next week, the Pro Bowl would be a really big deal. BTW, minimum ticket prices currently for the Super Bowl is around $2,300+. On the high side, they're talking close to $25,000 a seat. Lots of people selling fake tickets. One story in the paper is about a guy in Seattle that bought one on Craig's List for just under $1,000. A real bargain if he ever got it, but he did send the money and he did get a tracking #, just no ticket. :o There's about 10 different ways to tell a fake from a real ticket, you just have to get your hands on it first to check it out.

Good afternoon all.

Cold dry and not much snow around.

Columbus is hosting the NHL all star game, with some OSU celebrating still going on.

3D printer is idle till I can get a big block of time fool with it. Still trying to perfect an S gauge boxcar design, once it is where I like it I will try a simple flatcar design next in S of course.

My summer project(coaling tower) is waiting for a coal bucket which I am debating on buying one or maybe print one up sometime.

Other projects still on hold but not forgotten.

Will build up the laser kit train station to the point where I can decide if I want an interior with lights inside and out before painting and installing the roof. When I get to the point that I am ready to paint the station will paint up and finish the coaling tower at the same time.

Greetings, gang.

Cloudy and 39 degrees tonight. Supposed to be (comparatively) warm for the next several days with highs in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

Went to the train show in Council Bluffs today and picked up some people to populate the outdoor railroad. Also picked up a Kadee wheel cleaner. As usual had a great time with friends from Nebraska.

No plans for tomorrow.

All stay safe.

Tom

Evening all. Day went different from planned. Sunday School and then to steak house planned. Then pond property behind the house. Didn't work. SIL [Wifey's sister] drives up with daughter [Wifey's Niece, 30's] and daughter [Great Niece, 8] and son [Great Nephew 15 mon.]. Want to go to Smithfield for wedding dress and etc. Yes, two children and now decided to marry the Dad who lives with them. Icon_lol Did not know how to get there. So, Frank drives to Smithfield with Wifey to a buffet. All eat and I drive back leaving Wifey to shop with them. Then went to pond I manage. Duke Energy had been there with it extra wet and destroyed Mrs. Dorothy Jones' [90 year old black widow] side yard, path to pond and trees around the area. After saying a few cuss words [didn't learn at SS today], called the Government Rep for Duke. [I had called him 2 weeks ago and told him not to do work with it so wet. He had told foreman.] We had little discussion. Sent him phone photos. He is having foreman contact me tomorrow. Will repair all. Getting ready to leave and Mrs. Dorothy was at her door. Had to go visit for 45 minutes. Just got home. OH BTW, carried my Ruger .40 cal. semi carbine fast entry rifle with red dot scope [surplus Sheriff Dept. rifle my son got for me]. Makes a good shooter for emergencies [foxes, mean dogs, coyotes and etc.] you might run into at pond property. Better at a distance than my little KHAR CM 40 I conceal carry.

Rain switching over to snow overnight, roads will be fine by time I have to go to work(2nd shift) also will be working the odd ball 12:00 noon shift on Saturday :?

Started back on diet again, casino food too good so have to stop eating there. Hate to lose so I avoid the casino unless there is comp food and some free play.

Anyone a member of TTOS (Toy train Operating Society)? I am thinking of joining them at some point, I am a NMRA and LCCA member as well.

While doing some investigative shopping I found a website Wiseman Model Services (www.LocoPainter.com)
they have all sorts of detail parts even some 1:48 scale hand guns and rifles. I found just about everything detail wise for the interior of station I am working on. Just two items to find a source for a clock and some mail bags.

Evening all, bit windy out this way. Had Santa Ana winds last night and today, suppose to get rain tomorrow. Have an appt at VA tomorrow with primary Dr.. Not really expecting much just a follow-up.

We finally broke down and upgrade to an HDMI tv. Got a blue-ray player connected and our cable system. Lots to learn about the TV it is a "Smart TV". Don't understand all that yet.

Attended a Computer Swap Meet this morning, we had a booth selling Inkjet and laser cartridges. Did OK but could be better.

Didn't get out into the train room today or even this weekend, maybe Monday in the pm.

All for now, call for dinner.

Be Safe and Stay Healthy!

Cold light rain. Off to Rex Hospital for some walk test about lungs. Just did a breathing test and all OK. I think my ins. money is now being used. Anymore and I will refuse. In fact, last Dr. visit this was not mentioned. Got a call later saying Dr. ordered. Hope all have a good week. Prayers for those up north in storm's path. Later.

Re: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #VII.. Stop In!!! - ezdays - 01-26-2015

Good morning everyone. We have a forecast of some rain today, but my concern goes out to all of you back east where they are forecasting THE storm of all storms. I wish you all well and hope things aren't as bad as they think they will be.

This week is the week of all weeks, seems as if the media and a few hundred thousand others have Super Bowl fever. All of downtown has been turned into one huge party place. Even the state Liquor Board is jumping in by allowing liquor to be sold and consumed on the streets there. I just wonder who is responsible for cleaning up the mess when it's all over and everyone has gone home.

Bright sun and 17 degrees.
It's winter cold and next week will be colder. No new snow till Thursday.
After the terrible winter we had last year, just thinking of the storm predicted for the east coast gives me chills.
A late chat last night but we did get about 30 minutes in.

Greetings, gang.

Bright sunshine and 43 degrees in the remote reaches of northern Iowa with a predicted high of about 50. A far cry from what the east coat is experiencing. Prayers for those in the path of the storm.

We had chemo today and got good news so we will be continuing for now. No major plans for today.

All stay safe.

Tom

Good morning Big Blue. The Coffee is hot and we are just starting to get the first taste of the big blizzard. High winds and whiteout conditions make for a great day to stay inside.
