CSX locomotive projects - Rscott417 - 02-07-2016

I have 4 CSX projects in the works. 2 of them will be repeat projects I posted a few months ago but I had to sell them, so I'm going to restart and complete them. The first one I'm working on is a GP38-2 #2738. I'm using a Proto 2000 model and will attempt to add as much details to match the real thing as possible minus any body/shell modifications. So far I've added a round vent to the nose and painted it grey, painted over the top right corner of the "C" in CSX on the hood, added pilot details (plows & hoses), moved the grab irons to the conductors side of the nose (will be adding a signal box) and I'm working on removing the numbers on the engineers side cab so I can add a vent and off center the numbers.

Looks like your off to a good start. Thumbsup

Re: CSX locomotive projects - Rscott417 - 02-11-2016

Thanks Catt. Today I added a vent on the cab roof and painted the roof white, re-decaled the numbers on the cab, added the faded paint/light blue spot on the battery box, sun shade on engineers side, windshield wipers, and American flag and various warning decals.

Really nice work!!!

Great looking GP38-2 you got going there! Thumbsup No wonder those Geep 38-2s are known as the GP9 of the 70s.

Re: CSX locomotive projects - Rscott417 - 04-11-2016

Does anyone know how to remove the side truck frames from a p2k model? I need to paint them black and I can't figure out how to take them off.

Re: CSX locomotive projects - faraway - 04-11-2016

I think I remember the bottom cover of the trucks must be removed first. The bottom cover has some pins that lock the side frames.

As Reinhard stated you have to remove the axle retainer cover. There are four small tabs that have to be popped up to remove the covers with a very small screwdriver or a #11 blade. Once you get one up put something in the gap to prevent in from snapping shut before you get the other three separated. Also be careful not to break more than one tab on each retainer as these hold the axles and trucks together.

This locomotive is officially finished. Thanks to bradleydcc for another great model. Here's a link to his website with the finished photos of 2738 plus a video with the caboose he did for me. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://bradleydcc.weebly.com/proto-2000-csx-gp38-2-2738.html">http://bradleydcc.weebly.com/proto-2000 ... -2738.html</a><!-- m -->

Re: CSX locomotive projects - Rscott417 - 06-30-2016

My next 3 engine projects will be repeats of the ones I posted about a year ago <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://bigbluetrains.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=8153&start=30">viewtopic.php?f=17&t=8153&start=30</a><!-- l --> I had to sell them and was lucky enough to find all 3 sold out engines so I can start over.

The gp38-2 will once again be renumbered #2622

B40-8 will either get renumbered to #5959 or stay as 5933

ex-Conrail gp40-2 will either get renumbered to 4431 again but I'd really like to number it 4427 but that will mean removing all the Conrail logos and adding Conrail Quality decals

Will you use the Proto motor and drive on the GP38-2?

The gp38-2 is an Athearn genesis model

Re: CSX locomotive projects - Rscott417 - 08-18-2016

I decided I'm going to go the more difficult route and renumber the Conrail gp40-2 for CSX 4427. Which also means giving it the Conrail Quality scheme. I tried using micro sol but wasn't working that great on the decals and started some discoloration. So I dumped the hood into 91% alcohol and I really hope Tru-color Conrail blue will be a good match. Also got the decals on the nose in place.

Re: CSX locomotive projects - Rscott417 - 08-18-2016

Tru-color Conrail blue isn't an exact match. I'll let this dry over night and I have Badger Conrail blue maybe I'll try spraying it over the tru-color and see if that changes anything.
