A 1939 Pullman - nkp_174 - 02-21-2009

I've decided to scratch build a Pullman sleeper lounge car. The car is Pullman plan 4086...a 6 bedroom, buffet-lounge car. I'm building for my father owned it when I was a little kid...the Chittenango Falls. She was built in 1939 and served on the Commodore Vanderbilt. She was sold to Ted Church in 1964 and my father purchased her and 1941 NYC Pullman built coach 2600 sometime before I can remember (possibly before I was born).

Here's the sides so far...so much faster and easier than an On3 passenger car...

IIRC, the 2600 was sold to a group in Michigan which maintains a small fleet of passenger cars.

The Chittenango Falls in sitting on the tail end of the remains of an NYC branch around 100 feet east of where it crosses US 33 near Wapakoneta, OH. If it weren't for the trees, you could see it from I-75. It is currently wearing the '48 two-tone gray...although the current owner, Denny, hasn't done anything for a few years.

The car sides are from styrene...the second car side took me around an hour...maybe less...to make (the first took me twice that long or more).

This car is an experiment in HO lightweight car construction. I'd prefer to use laser cut styrene, but this is good enough for now. I also might investigate etching at home. If I don't like what I accomplish with the ECW carside surgery, I'll just replace the sides with new ones.
