Bethlehem PA Steel Refinery - ngauger - 09-10-2016 Visited Bethlehem on Labor Day 2016 and took a few pics: Re: Bethlehem PA Steel Refinery - e-paw - 09-10-2016 Nice.. I didn't now they allowed people that close to the plant.. Last time I was there ( a few years back ) I couldn't get within 800 feet of a fence without a rent-a-cop asking me to move on. Re: Bethlehem PA Steel Refinery - doctorwayne - 09-10-2016 With the fenced-off catwalk, it looks as if it's now a tourist attraction. I think that I might have sprained my neck looking at the two turned photos of the skip bridge. Here's a couple photos of abandoned steelworks in the Steubenville/Mingo Junction area... Even though it appears to be fenced-off, I'm sure that we could have got in easily had we wanted to. These are photos of a working blast furnace. At the time it was built, the largest in North America, I believe: Below, in the lower foreground, a torpedo car for hot metal, and beyond the railing-topped steel wall, the slag pit... Had I been caught taking those last four photos, it would have cost me my job - no cameras allowed inside the plant. Here's an unfinished model depicting the scene in the last photo: Wayne Re: Bethlehem PA Steel Refinery - ngauger - 09-10-2016 Nice Pictures! Re: Bethlehem PA Steel Refinery - kamerad47 - 09-11-2016 It's a dam shame all that industry is gone from this country !!!!!!! Re: Bethlehem PA Steel Refinery - e-paw - 04-30-2017 Stopped by there today so I'll add a few pics to revive this thread. |
