I used some Radical Flat(had to repeat the same buildings as I have only very few none industry images) background and some net find for foreground dummies to understand the proportions of trolley, street, bus and automobile vs. the layout size 400 * 60cm/ 158"*24". Whatever I put on the empty layout it shrinks immediately.,

The only 60cm/24" deep shelf layout in conjunction with 20cm/8" radius trolley tracks permits hardly a second street running in parallel to the main street at the front. The dummy building fronts demonstrate two versions 1) a second street with blocks 18cm/7" deep or 2) blocks of undefined depth but the tracks escape between two buildings while the street continues to the backdrop. The birds view makes the problem more visible while the photos at street view cover it nicely up.

Got the 4mm foam board and fixed the streets. The main street in the foreground has one track, one traffic lane and one parking lane in each direction. The space consumption is amazing. The smaller streets have one track and two traffic/parking lanes in total. The sidewalks are 5cm/2" wide defined. The mockup fronts visualise how the space is melting...

The global 4mm raise to get at track level is complete. Next step is the 1mm raise of "white islands" to form sidewalks and become base for all future buildings.

1.5mm foam board is used to define sidewalks and set the base for all buildings.

Almost all kits arrived. Just waiting for Bachmann Spectrum Metropolitan Building to start assembling and kit bashing.

Progress with a modified Spectrum Ambassador Hotel kit. I intended a strong contrast to the first light and shiny building.

Side and rear walls of City Classic buildings are to valuable to be hidden in a string of buildings. They make great structures viewed from the side in the background.

Ashmore Hotel is base for another larger building to complete one block. I wonder if the show room might be used for a high end car dealer. Did that happen down town in the 1960s?

In the 60s many car dealers were still downtown. It was about this time that they started moving to larger lots near shopping malls, which were also starting about this time. Looking good so far. Always amazes me how quickly you change things. Thoroughly enjoy watching this thread.

I agree with Tom, and wish I could accomplish things as quickly. Always enjoyable to watch your threads, Reinhard, as there's always something happening.
