Pushed the industries and the lead to the back and got space for a road but only one inch deep background industries are the price to pay.

I cheated myself and define a road to narrow to have street and railroad signs (made that mistake some years ago already).

Did it again with a road made of two 3cm/1,2“ soft shoulders and 8cm/3.2“ pavement. Surplus foam board with that given wide made it easier to push the rear tracks back into the correct position and it is still a quite narrow road .....

I like the way this looks. If you want a wider roadway you could widen the road with no shoulder or try moving your runaround tracks just an inch closer to that long dead end spur

I think a distance of 3cm from track to pavement is required to place signals, switch stands and last not leat traffic signs (in this case lots of the famous "no parking any time").
The long stub track is a team track that will also hold center beam cars. The distance to the next track is already far to small for a forklift (lets be gently and not mention it again. The forklift operator with do his job). The next track's use depends on the operating model a) run around b) siding for opposing traffic c) transfer track (e.g. FCEN CF7 drops and picks cars for interchange with CSX). the next track is the main track.
For space saving reasons is the distance only 5 cm. Next is 3cm minimum distance to the road pavement, 8 cm road pavement and again 3cm to the next track.
That track is the lead track serving the diverging industry tracks. Two of the industry tracks are only 5 cm awayn from the lead track. The switch crew will hate me :-) With all the cramped stuff in place is the most rear rail 10 cm away from the backdrop. That is where the entire industry has to reside.....
I loved Freelance 2018-1 for the very first opportunity to model the background industry with a decent depth.

All Peco tracks (switches #5 and 6) laid for Freelance 2019-1. Team track in the front, lead track to the industries in the back and main track with siding/ run around/ transfer track in the center just behind a road running all the way long.

IMHO there is nothing like a well planned switching layout that is a joy to operate and your plans seems to fit that description.. Icon_e_smile

I continue the low cost wallpapered foam boad structure buildings as used in Freelance 2018-1. This is the very first without 3D details in the center background of Freelance 2019-1. The dimensions are h:6.5cm d:5cm w:75cm (about 2.5" * 2" * 30").

A very simple structure to warm up Icon_e_biggrin

A triangle building at the east end. The two loading docks are cut out and recessed glued back in place. The most simple 3D effect.

Reinhard, that is a great use of space. Odd shaped buildings are the norm in my area. In my home town of East Liverpool I think 50% of the buildings are odd shapes and I never realized it until Google Earth cam along with the great satellite views.
You are moving right along as expected.
