The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #IX.. Stop In!!! - ezdays - 12-09-2020

Well, thread #8 has reached 4000 posts, so we're off to #9. Why the Roman Numerals? Heck if I know, when we started these threads, I guess someone just did it that way and we've continued ever since. A long time....

I did move the last two posts from the old thread since they were posted today...............

The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #IX.. Stop In!!! - Charlie B - 12-10-2020

Very cloudy here in southeast Ohio.
I am hoping the vaccine is made available soon. Someone posted that 2 folks had reactions to the shot. I read the article, It wasn't near as scary as the headline. They didn't say how many had got the vaccine, and the re-actions were very mild.

I am so tired of the media hype, though if you read the papers from a hundred years ago it was much the same.

11 days until the sun starts north again. That always improves my mood.
Charlie

Greetings, gang.

29 now headed for 52 later. Chance of snow tomorrow.

Pretty mellow day yesterday. Gym in the morning and a bike ride in the afternoon. If the weather holds today I should be able to go over the 1200 mile mark on the bike this afternoon. Only other item on the agenda is a trip to the gym this morning. Finally got my new game updated. It's kind of fun but I'm still trying to figure it all out.

All stay safe.

Tom

Good morning, well, the soothsayers got it right for a change. I looked outside and of course, saw no rain, but by the time I went out for breakfast water was dropping from the sky. Strange stuff, but I do remember something about that. I thought I heard one of the cactus say, "thank you", and a whole bunch of weed seeds were singing "hallelujah, we can now get this guy in trouble with the HOA".... Well, officially, we've not had rain for 111 days, unofficially, I bought the truck I'm driving back in March, and I had to spend five minutes this morning trying to find out how to turn on the windshield wipers.

Enough of that, I think I'll go and sit out in the rain for a while....

Good morning folks

It is 43 and sunny here in the Delaware Valley. Heading up to 48. We had brief snow flurry for about a half hour yesterday.

Did my weekly heavy cleaning of the first-floor floors yesterday. I had to make a last-minute run to the grocery store to get a couple of things my daughter needed to make dinner. Went to the store nearest home. I have not been in there in quite a while. Yesterday I remembered why. Shelves were disorganized, workers being just flat out lazy, and the other customers being rude. Apparently social distancing did apply as people crowded around each other. A few times I found myself surrounded or boxed in.

Later in the evening my back flared up again. At least once I got in bed, I could get semi-comfortable. I woke up every hour or hour and half which was better than the other night when it took me a couple of hours to fall asleep and then waking up every 15 to 20 minutes. Still hurting today which will limit what I do. Took some pain pills and a hot shower which loosened things up but there is still pain.

I finished weathering the twelve coal hoppers. I sealed eight of them, leaving four to go. Hopefully I can seal them today and perhaps build some Tropicana Orange Juice reefers.

I hope everybody has a good day.

I just saw that the NWS just posted a Freezing Fog Advisory starting at 10 PM and going through to 9 AM Friday. I caught in a freezing fog a few years ago. Scariest drive I ever did. In a freezing rain you can see, in a freezing fog you cannot so you have zero time to react. It is good thing everybody is working from home.

Don:
When we bought our motorhome, I had to drive it 50 miles down a superhighway to home. Dayle was folowing in the car. It started to rain a bit and I had no idea how the wipers worked and nobody to read the manual at me.
Our snow is slowly melting away.
Best story in the papers is that the second person to get the vaccine in Britain was William Shakespeare. The firsta person was designated 1A; speculation as to whether he was 2B. Or not 2B.
I now have 3 more feet of low relief buildings and no new wall to put them on. They may go behind some trees but I don't have any street in front of them.

RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #IX.. Stop In!!! - ezdays - 12-11-2020

Good Friday morning to ya all. Really nice day yesterday, just about everyone in the Valley got a nice soaking. We got a bit over 3/4" here, making it the 15th day we've had rain this year. 18 is the record, so we're bound for another weather record for the year.

Yeah David, nice to know I'm not the only one. I did get the windshield wipers going, but then had  trouble finding out how to get the fog lights on. I'm sure in a few years, all vehicles will have voice command options for that. "Turn on the wipers, low speed". I'm not sure about the one I'm driving, but I had one where I could change radio stations and do a few other things by voice, I just never remember to use it. I have a voice command TV remote, I just forget to use it too. I do, however, push that button by mistake frequently. Icon_redface

Heading out this morning to meet "Woodone" for breakfast. I haven't seen him in a few years. He's a DCC guru, and I wish he'd stop by here more often.

RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #IX.. Stop In!!! - tompm - 12-11-2020

Good morning folks

The morning temperature is 38. The freezing fog never materialized and now it nice and sunny and going to mild with a high of 54.

Not much done around the house yesterday due to my back pain. Today I am going to try to rest it some more.

I was able to finish sealing the last four coal hoppers. Now all twelve are finished. I started working on the Con-Cor Tropicana reefer kits. This is the first time I have built a Con-Cor kit in about sixteen or seventeen years, so I don’t remember much about them. I have to say they are annoying. They require a ton of tweaking. Some holes were not predrilled large enough for the screws. Some of the holes on the trucks had to be enlarged. The biggest issue was with the coupler boxes. The box will not take a Kadee #5 due to the metal clip. Luckily, I had some Kadee #148 couplers that do not use the clip. The hole on the lid had to be enlarged so it fit properly. Most egregious was that the kit came with no screws for securing the coupler box lid. Again, I was fortunate that I had just purchased screws to use to secure the coupler clips on my problem Athearn cars. Lastly the weight bar has to be secured to the frame by glue and the frame is flimsy so it bends. I had to clamp now the weights. It took more time than I anticipated to assemble them. I worked on three and got them to the point where I am waiting for the glue on the weight to dry so I can assemble the frame to the car body and then they will be done.

I hope to finish the three reefers today and start on the other two. Once they are all assembled, I will weather them along with the two Athearn reefers I assembled earlier this week. After the reefers are done, I need to decide what is next. There are six Bowser NYO&W coal hoppers that need weathering. I also have several cabooses needing weathering. I also hope to run some trains.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Greetings, gang.

Cloudy and 34 headed for cloudy, rainy, and 39. 60% chance of about an inch of snow overnight.

1200.6 miles! that's my total on the bike for this year. Looks like I'll be putting the bike in storage soon as the exceptionally nice weather I've had recently is coming to an end. Also yesterday I swam a third of a mile and walked for a mile. This morning I'll head to the gym for an easy workout and probably goof off the rest of the day.

Got a call from my grandson yesterday. Come to find out my son is back in the hospital. His feeding tube came out and also after a series of tests they found out he has a slight case of pneumonia. He's being kept in the hospital for a few days while the pump him full of antibiotics.

All stay safe.

Tom

Hello Blue
Thanks for the link.
Still nothing earth shattering here. And we really don't need any do we? My good friend Charlie stopped by tonight, it was good to see him as the China virus has kept us apart. We had sun and 40s today but an all day rain is expected tomorrow.

RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #IX.. Stop In!!! - ezdays - 12-12-2020

Good morning all. Saturday, did get to sleep in a bit longer, no rush to go out for breakfast on weekends. It was good spending some time with Jerry (woodone) yesterday. He is still doing DCC conversions, mostly N scale. I'm sticking with DC, especially since I'm more interested in the modeling aspect than running trains.

A bit chilly outside, no more rain in store, we'll just end the year on the record books for lots of things, too much heat this summer, too little rain all year. I'm surprised that no one has blamed Mother Nature for doing a conspiracy. Icon_rolleyes Too busy for that I guess with all those folks blaming everyone else for everything else. Boy, I'm glad 2020 is almost behind us.

We did have a nice little test chat last night on Skype. Even had Lutz stay up well past midnight to be with us. The chat went well and I think we'll be using Skype from now on. No time limits, well, 24 hours, no complicated logging in, just click on the link....

Got nothing on the schedule for today, so I'm just going to wing it. Have a great weekend and don't do any more than you have to.... Goldth
