RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #IX.. Stop In!!! - ezdays - 12-12-2021

Good morning everyone, a chilly one at that. Heading to church early, vehicle outside temp was 41, coming back it showed 39. Cold enough that even the weeds don't want to come out. Been fighting those babies for a while now. A chance that it could hit 70 later today. Rain on the schedule for mid-week. That'll be pleasing to the weeds.

Filled up at Costco this morning, $3.39 while most stations are still at $3.79 and that one Cheveron down the street at $4.19. Folks hit by those tornadoes now have to watch out for price gougers and scammers. Why are there so many scumbags in the world today, rather than helping those in need, they want to take what little they have left....

Taking it easy today, hope you can as well....

Greetings, gang.

29 now headed for 49 and sunny. Low 50s tomorrow and mid 60s for Wed. but Wed. could also bring winds up to 50 mph.

Very quiet day yesterday. Woke up with a nose roughly the size (and shape) of Idaho this morning. Looks like I'll be staying away from people for a while except for a run to Walmart for some cold medicine.

All stay safe.

Tom

Good morning all, been a bit chilly so far, could get into the 70's later on, but I turned on my seat and steering wheel heaters on my way to breakfast Isn't technology great? Suppose to rain tomorrow late, the Internet says about a 15% chance, the guy on the radio says 90%. Me, I just say let's wait and see....

Got early appointments today and tomorrow but free to do as I please the rest of the week. Might need to stop by Walmart and pick up a string of lights. The tree I have has lights already on it, but if one goes out, that whole string goes out and two out of the three strings won't light and I'm not taking hours to find the blown bulbs.  I've already added one string of LED lights, now to add another.

Have a great day and don't forget we have a bunch of folks who have lost loved ones and many who are homeless from those tornadoes. They need prayers and all the help they can get. What a mess, and so close to Christmas.

Hello Blue
Sun and 40s today.
Taking my wife shopping this morning, not sure what she has in mind but I hope it's not more decorations. Only reason I'm going is to get in the walk.
The Escape hasn't been driven in about ten days so the exercise will do it good.
No train news.
S.J.

At least no new decorations. Lowest gas I saw at several stations was $3.19.

Good evening folks

Checking in late per usual for the last few weeks.

Took the wife to the pulmonary doctor. Visit was annoying to say the least. He was more worried about the sleep apnea than the blood clot in the lung. My wife almost reminded him that he missed the blood clot blaming her breathing problems on her weight. Both of us were uncomfortable in his office as it violated a bunch of covid protocols. Everyone was masked but the waiting area was packed with no social distancing. Got the feeling he is one of those doctors more interested in the money that comes in from seeing patients than actually treating them. He is one of the doctors that has appointments scheduled every ten minutes. On top of it he informed my wife that he didn’t sign the authorization for the CPAC until late October which was over a month from when the machine was ordered. When I spoke with the durable medical supplier, and when they said they were waiting for authorization I thought they were talking about the insurance not the doctor. His in action basically added an additional six weeks to a 3-month waiting time to get a CPAC. Should have gotten the machine this month. We are looking at February according to the supplier. Looks like we will be looking for a new pulmonologist/sleep specialist. Sorry for the rant.

I had a productive weekend. We got the Christmas tree up and decorated. The wife felt well enough to help and hung about half the balls herself. We had a major snafu, three light sets went poof during their storage time. I went looking for replacements but could not find any multicolor sets anywhere. We had to take the only multicolor set we had off a tree outside and use it on the Christmas tree.

I finished ballasting the track in the passenger station area and painted the foundations for the station platforms. I also glued them down.

Next is working on scenery around the platforms and doing the foundation for the station building and surrounding streets and parking areas.

I hope everybody has a good evening.

Good morning all, suppose to get rain, could sprinkle a bit this morning with, some say, a lot better chance tonight. Still, it's not a lot of rain, but we'll take it. Today we could hit 70, tomorrow maybe in the high 50's, need the low temps so they can have snow up north.

Tom, it's bad enough that the insurance companies make you jump through hoops to get the care you need, but when you get to a doctor that doesn't seem to pay attention, it is indeed time to move on. When we moved to the area we are in now, we tried three different primary care doctors before we stuck with the one we have now and that was 18 years ago. Good luck with whatever you do.

Put my tree up right before Thanksgiving, it comes in three sections and each section has a string of lights that plug into each other. Well, a few days after it was up, one string went dark, it's got the kind that if one light goes out, they all do, and I don't have the patience or time to find the blown bulb so I went to Walmart and got a string of 100 LED lights to replace that section. Turned the tree on yesterday and another section won't light. This time Walmart is out of color LED light strings for trees. Was talking to another customer and she said the same goes for Target, Home Depot and Lowe's. So I settled for a string of 100 "if one goes, the all go". I am truly amazed though that they can sell them for $2.48 US. That's 2 1/2 cents a bulb, not counting the wire and 100 sockets plus a few spare bulbs. How in the world can they do that for that price? Asked the guy that was restocking if they were out of LED light strings and he grunted something that I took for a "yes"...

Take care and have a pleasant day.

Greetings, gang.

Sunrise this morning is making the sky look like it's on fire. Cloud conditions are such that the orange/red is spreading all the way to the western horizon. 34 now headed for the low 50s this afternoon. Mid 60s tomorrow but with 50 mph winds it's not gonna be all that nice.

Very quiet day yesterday. For only the third or fourth time since I retired 16 years ago I didn't get dressed. Spent the day in a robe and pj's. This cold is kicking my tail. Out of cold medicines so I'll be heading to Walmart shortly to restock. Probably pick up a few other items while I' there.

Continuing prayers for Tom's wife.

All stay safe.

Tom

Good morning big Blue
We have a beautiful morning with a predicted high in the mid 50's. Believe it or not, I may try to finish mowing the grass that didn't het done before it got too wet.

Tom, I wouldn't trust that doctor even the least little bit and I agree you should find another immediately.  I have been lucky with the specialists I have had to see but PCP's are another story.  When I first retired I had the best PCP I had had in a long time. unfortunately he was young enough to move on to an area where he could get paid what he was worth.  I stayed with the same practice and his replacement was a nurse practitioner. He was Ok but after a couple years the practice was sold and the first time I visited the blood draw payment from my insurance co was denied. It turned out the old practice was billing using the owner doctors name the new owners sent the bill min in the NP's name and after running it down we discovered they had never transferred his license to Ohio.  I didn't care for the new company so I went else where and lucked out with a real dandy. My BP was 124/79 and he spent 5 minutes telling me how I was at risk for a stroke.  I moved on. Now I have a PCP that looks so young I would have thought she couldn't buy alcoholic beverages, but if I have an appointment at 9AM  I am in her exam room having my vitals taken and she is in within 5 minutes. My first visit she spent almost an hour just getting to know me and finding out if I had any problems. She is the most caring doctor I have had in 50 years. So don't be afraid to shop around. My prayers continue for you, your family  and your wife.

I worked in the train room for about 2 hours last night. I made a couple height gauge and repaired a couple cars that had minor defects. tonight I need to put my wifi receiver in a high place and see if I can hide it somewhat. I can use it to run my trains with my tablet, laptop or my android phone and since I have 3 old phones I retired I have 3 more wireless throttles. Now all I need is a few guys to come for an operating session.

       A good day for everyone.
Cheers
Charlie

We went shopping again this morning. I'm apparently down on corduroy pants. On the weekend we tried one store in the oldest chain in Canada. They had one pant in my size in an odd honey-yellow colour. Next store had nothing in my size. Today's store had one a size larger but they got on the computer and after trying a pile of things, found one in the warehouse.
Horrible computer system. Scan pants, ask it look up a different size, select colour, none available. Repeat from scan for the next colour.

For fans of the English language, a new collective noun. A failure of hermits.

Good morning, they were right, we got rain last night all over the valley. They forecast from .04" to .5", we got the .04" while other areas got up to .75". Next week should be a good one, rain every day in the forecast. Temps won't hit 60 today with lows in the high-30's meaning that it's snowing up north.

Cannot believe we are this close to Christmas and a new year. Checking my calendar and I'm going to appointments that I made a year ago.

Not much else, I did paint my DPM kit and stripped it, just didn't look good so I'm starting over, trying a different approach this time.

Learned yesterday that one of the regulars who shows up everyday in a motorized wheelchair at Brenda's Kitchen was in the hospital. We know that he fell at home, but got the details from his daughter. Turns out he fell in the bedroom and his cell phone was in another room and it took him 12 hours trying to crawl and reach it. They said his knees were bloody from crawling. He was sent home a few days ago, but is back in again, so if you would add him to your prayers it would be appreciated.

Take care and have a peaceful day....

Greetings, gang.

Cloudy and 54 with a predicted high near 70 with winds near 60 tonight. Gonna be a little breezy.

Yesterday didn't go quite as I expected. Went to Walmart and the grocery store and got everything on my list. My original plan was to change oil on my car today since it is going to be so warm. Now the forecast has this area at an 80% chance of rain today and 70% tonight. So I wisely changed the oil yesterday. No crawling around on a wet driveway.

Friendly stock tip - but stock in facial tissues. This cold has be using them at a ferocious rate. That's not Rudolph you see - that's my nose.

All stay safe.

Tom

Jim, good to hear from you. Sorry you're having such issues, you would think there would be a VA facility in Yuma by now. The one here in Phoenix might be closer, but not by much. Blood thinners are suppose to keep clots from forming, so maybe the surgeon can sort things out.

You are a brave soul if you've updated to Win11, I couldn't if I wanted to, something about my motherboard not having some chip. That may be a stroke of luck. If it's a Win10 update, you should be able to step back to your last update.

Good luck on both your health and you computer issues.

One of our club says he gets kidded about his phone. It's mounted onone of the stair posts about a foot off the floor. He then explains that he lives alone and if he falls in the basement, he will need something.
We have one phone that is powered by the phone line. If the power goes, it will still work (unless the phone lines go as well). And it doesn't need a cell phone tower.
