RE: The Hobo Camp Fire Is going well #IX.. Stop In!!! - tompm - 04-28-2022

Good afternoon folks

It is a chilly and very windy 51. High will be 55. Keeping an eye on the temperature. There are Freeze Warnings are being posted all around us.

Did some house cleaning chores yesterday. We did make the CVS run which turned into a CVS and Rite Aid run. The wife had her appointment with the back doctor. At the present she is done with him since her knees are more of a problem and can possibly be relived without surgery. The only option left for the back would be surgery if the pain and discomfort become too great. She will be seeing a pain management specialist next week to help with the pain and to coordinate treatments.

I started to check my Con Cor Tropicana reefers last night. I ran into a few unexpected issues related to coupler height. The couplers were too low and the normal solutions did not. I finally had to change the 33 inch wheels to 36 to solve the problem. I may post a thread later describing my trails and tribulations with the one reefer I did last night. I did get to tune up three box cars, two Accurail and a Roundhouse kits. I may try to work on more reefers tonight. In addition to tuning up a bunch I have three Con Cor kits, an Athearn Special Edition Blue Box kit, and a Bachmann RTR reefer to add to the fleet.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning everyone, today is the coolest day (90) for the next two weeks, then we're barely into the 80's for a few days. Any signs of rain? Not here....

Since it is so cool out and since my friend has a new gun, we're headed out to Tonopah to do some target shooting today, probably the last time until October when it stays below 100.

Got a busy week coming up, drop my truck off to fix that fender that got hit in a parking lot. Insurance covers the damage, but I'm not covered for a rental. I keep kicking myself for not at least taking the guy's license plate # down since he was at fault.

Still fighting those two wildfires up north, about 1200 firefighters now dealing with them both. Prayers that they remain safe and keep the fires from spreading. One is 23% contained, the other 43% so they still have a ways to go.

Take care, I hope you all have something fun planned for the weekend.

Greetings, gang.

Another gloomy day underway in the remote reaches of northern Iowa. 53 and some very light rain or heavy mist. High 55. 90% chance of rain tonight and 80% tomorrow so outdoor activities will be limited.

Pretty quiet day yesterday. Sister-in-law and her husband showed up about 9 last night and were in bed by 10:30. No sign of them yet this morning. I think they plan to be on the road by mid to late morning.

I do have an outdoor activity planned for tomorrow but it remains to be seen whether the weather will permit it.

All stay safe.

Tom

Good afternoon folks

It is 55 heading up to 61.

We changed the soil in a bunch of pots for the plants in them. We did some heavy spring cleaning around the kitchen range.

I worked on tuning up the Con-Cor Tropicana reefers. Got them done. I need to weather the new installed wheels.

I have a few phone calls to do. We are changing over our auto and homeowners insurance. Then we need to pick up an order at Macys and I should run to Delaware for gas.

I hope to work on the Tropicana reefers.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Tom: I noticed that Kadee has low and high variations on #5, as well as a bunch of the other ones.

This weekend is the Great British Train Show. This is the first one that I have not participated in and will be the first one that I have not gone to at all. We do not trust the people that will show up on masking and other issues.

Greetings, gang.

Very cloudy and 56 headed for a 60% chance of rain and 58. Got about a half inch of rain yesterday. Not much rain expected today but chances exist for the next week. I'm sure with the precision forecasting by our National Weather Service that we will (or won't) get rain over the next week.

Sister-in-law and her husband were here and left again without incident. He is taking an interim pastor job in Nebraska about 3 hours away. Soccer here at 9 and laundry are the only projects on the agenda for today.

All stay safe.

Tom

Good morning all, warmish yesterday, target shooting went fine until around 11:00 when it felt like an oven so we quit a bit early. Had fun while we were there. Truck stop food was back up to decent, we gave it one more chance. I guess they must have fired that other cook. We wondered if he wasn't the same substitute cook that came to Brenda's one day, drunk. Have no clue what's going on at Brenda's since they started opening at 7:00.

Got lots of house-do's today including a plumbing issue. Found a sink drain stopper that works with a magnet so you can pull it out if it gets clogged. If it works, I'm going to change all the bathroom sink drains.

Today is the last day of April, I see nothing but 90's in the forecast until  May 24 which goes over 100. Some rain maybe in two weeks, but I'm not counting on it. The water level at Lake Mead behind Hoover Dam is so low that one of the intake ports is above the water level. California is already restricting water usage, that could happen here as well. In one area here, they are building houses, but have no water source. Another is being cut off soon.

Hope you all have a happy weekend.... Cheers

It is now 60. High was 67. It has been threatening rain all day. We had a brief 5 minute shower about an hour ago.

We have been chasing down paperwork for my wife's disability claim. She has been on the phone making sure correct dates have been inputted and we had to run out to the school district office to pick up paperwork. She sees the doctor on Thursday and can give him the paperwork he needs to complete.

Regarding the possible job according to my friend they are haggling over salary. Being retired I can be a little flexible with it.

I assembled most of the fruit stand last night. I still have the sign to add and then paint the various crates and barrels of produce. I still need to track down some decals or dry transfers for the signing I need for both the fruit stand and hot dog stand.

I am thinking of switching up and working on some rolling stock. I have several Tropicana reefers to build and was thinkin about starting them as a change of pace. I will need to change a number on one of the cars. Of course the style is Gothic and I only have Roman and Billboard number decals and dry transfers. Another thing to order.

I still have things to do around the coal yard, track to ballast, and wiring.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Tom been wanting to send this to you but my Benadryl haze is still around , you might be able to use them on fruit  and hotdog stands would have sent it via private message but can't add attachment to them . there in ho size at 72 dpi but you could re size them if too big .

Greetings, gang.

Cloudy and cool (again) outside my window this morning. 42 now headed for 53 and windy. Got about a quarter inch of rain yesterday. Today and Wed. are the only days without rain in the forecast. Long range forecast is giving hints of more normal (low 70s) temperatures by next week.

Routine day yesterday. Soccer (in the rain) for one of the great-grandkids in the morning and a walk in the rain yesterday afternoon. Later this morning I may head to Menards for a few things. Also need to pick up some aspirin.

All stay safe.

Tom

Good morning all and welcome to May, 2022. Consider weather forecasting as aiming  at a moving target. Yesterday it looked like we wouldn't hit 100 until the 24th,  but that's changed and now that could happen this Friday. "Hot with blazing sunshine", the report says. Although it's been hot here, we're a bit late with that 100, it can happen as early as March, and usually sometime in April.

The wildfire near Flagstaff is around 92% contained, the one south of Prescott is 38% contained and has almost 900 firefighters on the line.

Not much else to talk about, still working on my "house-do's", also trying to fix a couple of guns, like why don't they use normal size threaded screws? Lost a screw from my new gun and now I have to contact the manufacturer for a replacement. This one has a courser thread than either standard or metric. While looking for this screw, I think I found the spring that's missing from another gun. Applause I'm guessing the screw is somewhere out in the Tonopah desert. Icon_cry Do you think manufacturers do this on purpose so you have to buy replacement parts from them? It's certainly suspicious. Waiting

Take care and enjoy the day. I think there are a couple of football games on today. I watched a few yesterday...

Hello Blue
Cloudy now, rain overnight again. Boy I wish you fellers out west could take some of it. The ground is soaked and rainwater is laying in the grass.
A high of 69 today.
The York guys have arrived home safely with their new treasures.
Happy May Day

Howdy Everyone, Sorry I haven't been active again. I have been busy playing Train Sim World 2 - Horseshoe Curve Route for the past couple of weeks and can't seem to get away from it. The weather here today is rainy and cold but it does look like its going to warm up here and there throughout the week. Hope everyone has been having a good sunday. Back to work tomorrow, not ready for that one again lol. Hope you all have a wonderful rest of your weekend.

Thanks Kevin, I'll check the one here in Surprise, I spent some time yesterday looking for one at Home Depot, but sometimes, Ace has what HD doesn't, and the other way around...

Don most gun screws are called 6-40 . but that don't mean they all are there are off the top of my head  there are 10 different used screws used benign   sharp V, unified , Whitworth , modified square , acme , B&S worm , buttress  , knuckle , daroelet , metrics , us standard . there might be more but would have to dig out my machinist hand book . but my guess would be 6-40. and after you find a replacement i would use blue lock tight.
