RE: Current Projects - LiveSteamer - 04-06-2024

Well today was christmas from the mailman. I got my SW1500 I ordered off ebay and only paid $50 in total, also got a one dump truck of many I plan to get for the few mines I am modeling, also a new calf engine arrived also. Of course after searching and searching for a new I did find one. Only picture for now is of the SW1500.

So this is will be the project for the next couple of days as I'm going to have to take it completely apart and paint everything.

BNSF #3440 will become C&I Engine #17

This will be cool to follow.

I don't know if you are on Facebook or not but the group Railroads of Pennsylvania posted a photo of C&I equipment painted for the bicentennial.

Yes Tom I am on facebook. I will have to check them out. I've thought about painting number 36 in Bicentennial colors. That's about as far as it got lol. It is still possible though that later down the road I might purchase another engine and paint it in that color and change the number of the current #36.

Work has started on the SW1500. We went to Altoona today and did some shopping. I swung on by the hobby shop by the Juniata Shops and picked up a Yard Utility Building and a Engine house that I will use as a template for 3 of the other engine houses. I am going to be adding onto this building to get it as close as possible.

Small update. The engine house is nearing completion but I'm at a stand still as what to do. I have a thick piece of polystyrene and want to use it as the base for the building since it didn't come with one. Now the problem is, do I center the building or bring the building right up to the edge like in the photo?

Also I completed the Yard Utility Building.

Engine #37 magically got in there without any track lol.

Good job on the buildings.

I am not sure I can help with the base. Usually when I am in the same situation I try both and see which I feel more comfortable with. My Walthers Engine House does not have a base and for me that seems to the work the best. It is currently not on the layout as the locomotive facility is on hold.

Matt I usually end at buildings edge so you can plant them into scenery.

Ok thank you guys. I did buy enough styrene just in case. I did start to draw out the second engine house located at Colver. So once the current one is done, I will then move onto the next.

Today I am painting the SW1500 as the weather is going to be decent and no rain.

RE: Current Projects - LiveSteamer - 04-08-2024

Small update. I did get the engine shell painted and it's sitting drying awaiting decals. The frame is next to be painted in the respectful color of black.

I wouldn't go beyond the edge of the building  and even raise it slightly to look like footings. You can add walkways to the doors or even an outdoor storage area, whatever works for the scene.

Thank you Don. I will add footings to the building. I do have enough styrene to do it.

Today's work is putting decals on the SW1500. One side is done for the moment as we have baseball practice for the kiddo's tonight.

Thank You Tom. I just have to paint the fuel tanks, the walkways, and sides of the frame and all the painting is done. Then the rest of the decals will go on the front and back. I am very pleased with this Athearn SW1500 especially with the details it has.

The reason I picked #17 was because it didn't have the same type of numbers as 16, 19, & 20. They all had a black square with orange numbers on the cab and I have no idea where to even get those from.

Check and see if there are some type of dry transfer. You could put a black box dry transfer on. Then add the orange number. Woodland Scenics has dry transfers of numbers and possibly shapes.

Thank You Tom. I will have to check into that. The image below will give a better idea of what I am talking.
