Just got these in the mail today. Looking at the instructions and they really are not the best but I will make due with them. According to the box it will make 6 sets so we shall see. Hopefully it's not to stressful to put these together. Wish me luck lol.

Well I started to paint the handcar and I must say it sure isn't easy. In the photo below you will see the platform painted brown and the sides are yellow. The frame is painted a steel color except for where I need to apply glue. It is hard to see in the image that the frame is painted but it is lol. I didn't realize that there would be so many little parts and I must say that tweezers have become a very good friend for this project.

I will say this, this is sure a pain in the rear. The handle broke when I was cutting it out, then it was a task gluing it back together. Once I got that done, I then got it together and it has been sitting for about 2-1/2 hours because I don't want to touch it. Well below is the photo of whats done so far. I took a break and started to strip the decals off a B&O hopper to turn it into another C&I. No photo's yet of that one though.

Hi Matthew,
I've built a number of these handcars and they are very challenging (you're doing pretty good though). I've found that it might be better to assemble as much as possible before painting. I have also found that the parts are so delicate that the solvent-type glue can soften the part to the point that just touching it can break it.
Good call on stopping when you did to allow the parts the 'dry' out and regain the plastic's strength.

Thank You Glen, I have changed my mind about making more than one. I will just build the other 5 as flatcars and go from there. Once the speeder arrives that I ordered I will have about 3 flat cars connected to the speeder and the other two will go with the handcar. When I go to build the others I am going to wait until a good amount is together before I paint.
I honestly didn't think they would be this small for HO Scale but from what I can see they are correct. I would not like to see what these would be like for N scale.

I think they are built almost as small as possible. I feel that the wheelbase has to be a bit longer than track gauge so that it doesn't rotate as it goes along.
The platform between the rails to the speeder shed should have quarter-circle grooves in it where the car is picked up and turned to be taken off.

I do have to agree. Plus the instructions that were sent with it are not your normal instructions. I was expecting a step by step like most models come with and the instructions are only for the handcart and not the pushcar but I have an idea as to how the pushcar goes together.

If you can find any, you could try the old MDC/roundhouse handcar kits. Not as detailed as the Tichy versions but considerably more robust in their design. I remember them on the hobby shop peg boards in the 80's with a 1$ price tag!

I will have to see if I can find any along with some some vehicles because I will need a couple after digging deeper into the C&I Roster.

Just a small update,
Caboose #54 is having decals put on
Pushcart #2 has one set of wheels on with another being glued together
Hopper # 1382 is waiting for the decals to arrive in the mail
Finally a former South Buffalo Engine Shell arrived today in the mail and will be prepared this week for the removal of the lettering and new lettering applied.
But for now enjoy the pictures.

The pushcar is now put together and sitting on a display track for the time being.
The calf ( slug ) unit is getting decals applied as of right now. A number needs to be picked out which will be between 60-70.
Some good progress today and will only continue with it lol.

Here we have the bridge that will span over Old Rt. 22 and with number 37 sitting on the "new" bridge. Now all that needs to be done is it needs to be painted flat sky blue. Now to work on getting the second bridge that spans new Rt. 22 which is a four lane highway.

A number has been chosen for the calf ( slug ) engine. #68 is the number it will be. The second calf engine will be number 64 just because lol. I did start to paint the bridge girders and honestly they are the exact color as the bridges they are being modeled after. One more coat of paint and it will be good to go.
