Track cleaning on Metro in Oslo, Norway
#1
Hi guys --

Happened upon this video of track cleaning on the Metro / Subway in Oslo, Norway (there might be an annoying 10 second ad first):

Speech is in Norwegian, but the video is pretty self explanatory.

In another piece of subway news from Oslo, it seems likely that the city council will okay adding a shortcut between Metro line 5 and the "ring", serving an area currently only served by busses, where another 2000 homes will be built over the next couple of years. The extension/shortcut will be about a mile long, with one new station, and cost is estimated to about $160 million.

Sounds like money well spent - bleeding off some of the line 5 traffic from the common stretch downtown, and instead taking it over the new shortcut to to serve the northern part of the ring will free up traffic slots downtown, so we can increase frequency on line 3, and double capacity there, without having to extend platforms all over the net.

Btw - did you know that Oslo subways have some pretty large Porsches - weighing 98 tons each? The MX 3000 subway trains (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OS_MX3000) are designed by the Porsche design studio, and built by Siemens in Austria. They look good (for a subway) and are pretty nice to ride:
