One way to accomplish the task is to fill the hollow members with lead after they have been cut to size, but before assembly, then pre-tin the areas where you need to solder crossmembers, etc. into place. Using wet paper towels, wadded-up, as heat sinks on the areas away from where the soldering is taking place will ensure that the lead stays put. Use a good-size soldering iron that will give you lots of heat quickly. As you continue assembly, add more wet towelling at each completed joint.
I used a similar technique to add details to Beeg Boy using, for the most part, a 200 watt soldering iron and lots of wet tissue for heatsinks. Surprisingly effective.
