I got a used Scaletrains CSX SD40-3 with DCC only from eBay in excellent condition. It came with a ESU Lokpilot 4.0 that handles front, rear and solid ditch lights.
The engine is good looking and the mechanics run fine but it has been designed for ESU decoders only. The speaker space is well hidden in the weight. I tried a Tsunami 2 21 pin sound decoder to no avail. Only front, rear and number board lights work.
Another candidate to rip off all internals and install a nice Tsunami 2 PNP decoder.

The great looking ScaleTrains CSX SD40-3 has been electronically cleaned up and runs, lights and sounds with a Tsunami 2 EMD PNP decoder on my layout
