Here are some awesome pix of the CNR Northern that was recently moved to the John Street Roundhouse aka Toronto Railway Heritage Centre.

It sure looks good sitting on the turntable!

While it's not "news", I found THIS while looking for something else. Very impressive (and heartening) that it was moved instead of demolished.

Here are some more pics ....

Today, my family and I went downtown (in Toronto) and walked through the new Toronto Railway Historical Heritage Centre (which is still under construction), at the old CPR Roundhouse near the CN Tower (which you can see in some of these pics).

The main highlights are obviously the Northern 4-8-4 steam loco (which was recently moved to the roundhouse/museum) and the restored turntable. You can also see a Canadian National Diesel (GP7) next to the Northern. They're also laying narrow gauge track for a miniature live steam railway which hopefully will be running by the end of the summer. They've also moved Toronto's historic Don Station and a signal box to the roundhouse park, and the miniature railway will weave around these buildings.

In addition to the railway museum, there is a Leon's furniture store in one end of the roundhouse and Steam Whistle Brewery at the other end! Both are supporters of the railway museum.

My sons and I could end up visiting this site quite a bit in the future once it opens to the public.

Cheers,
Rob

Thanks!

Their heritage centre is really coming along well. They are also buying and installing a real F7 cab unit with a railroad simulator inside. Should be great! They're also laying narrow gauge/garden railway track outside around the park's grounds. All of this, plus the operating turn table, and you have quite an attraction for the rail-fan.

I think all of this will open on weekends starting next summer. Since it's close by, it will be an awesome place for my family to visit -- plus free beer samples for adults at the Steam Whistle Brewery which is based in the roundhouse! Big Grin

But, being right next to the CN Tower and SkyDome, it will be very busy. Nope
