Central Ohio Prototype Modelers meet
#1
Was held this past weekend in the Marion Union Depot in Marion, Ohio. This was my first Prototype Modelers Meet and quite a bit of fun with some great models displayed, great clinics, great conversations, an outstanding venue and great folks. The final tally was over 400 models and 60 participants.

As those in the Central Ohio area know, Marion is also a great location for train watching - the depot is surrounded by three double track mains:
- CSX (former Erie and NYC) east-west on the North side of the station
- CSX (former C&O) north south on the west side of the depot
- NS (former N&W / Pennsy) north south on the east side of the depot

The NS business train came through on Saturday evening - a nice surprise and quite a treat. It's a beautiful train, even to a steam guy!

Denis Blake, his wife Robin and Kevin Tweed organized this inaugural event and did a great job. Denis is planning on hosting another show next year April 28-30 - mark your calendars. Thanks to those folks!

I have some photos from the weekend to share. Enjoy.

Matt,I had planned on attending but,due to having one of my "bad" helath days I had to cancel. Wallbang

What did you think of the oldest club in the area? The layout still has sections of brass track.

I hope to attend next year.

BTW..Did you try the Walleye at the Shovel Inn? Its the best in the area. Thumbsup

Thanks for sharing your pictures. Thumbsup

Hey Larry,

Sorry to hear about your health; I hope this post finds you feeling better. We'll have to shake hands next year, or if I do any railfanning in Bucyrus, I'll shoot you a PM so you can show me around. Smile

Yes, I saw some of that brass track; that's a nice layout, especially considering it's age.

And yes, I in fact did have the Walleye - there's a lot of fish in that sandwich!

A couple more photos:

This is my me and my dad's display; actually only two and a half are mine - the caboose with the index card in front of it (I had a long build thread on the old gauge on this), and the partially assembled one to it's right. Half of the locomotive belongs to me as well.

The business train was going to the Kentucky Derby. The eastern railroads take their trains every year to entertain guests.

The 2011 edition, second annual, Central Ohio Prototype Modelers meet was held this past weekend (May 19 - 22). About 430 models showed up (along with their ~55 owners). There was the same excellent modern era modeling as showed up last year (a well done diesel is remarkably interesting) as well as a bit more steam era freight cars.

The location was Marion Union Station, which is described in more detail in the first post in this thread.

Entire gallery (45 photos) is here:

looks like a good time, I went to the North east fallen flags prototype meet a few years ago myself. The presentations at these meets are always full of info.
