India ink weathering
#1
Referring to Lance Mindheim's drop of india ink in a bottle of alcohol general weathering solution - would this also work on locos and cars to just generally tone down the shine? Not goign for the superdetailed dirt here, mud here, rust there, grease down here weathering, just somethign to kill the shine a bit and also have that basic overall 'washed down the sides' look. Anyone tried it on rolling stock, or just structures?

I've not tried it on rolling stock, but I write to caution you ...

... if you have Dullcoat on a model and apply the alcohol/drop of india ink wash ...

... do not freak out when it all gets smeary-cloudy on you !!!

It all looks right again with another coat of Dullcoat!

That was my 2010 Summer Structure Challenge entry. It sits on top of one of "The Library" bookshelves, awaiting completion. I'm hell-bent on getting this OMI Reading GP39-2 operating smoothly, getting a decoder and speaker in it, getting it painted and then carrying it over to the Scale Rails of Southwest Florida, the model railroad club that I am now a member of ...and then ... well, then I'll go back and finish that structure, and then I'll go farther back and finish the small fleet of very small cabooses, and the go farther back and ..............

Note: The classic wood weathering solution isn't rubbing alcohol and india ink...it is denatured alcohol and india ink. Denatured alcohol is in the paint section of your local Walmart or hardware store. I frequently use it to clean out my air brush.

My primary goal is a large Oahu Railway layout in On3
My secondary interests are modeling the Denver, South Park, & Pacific in On3 and NKP in HO
