Here is what I have been working on. It is a mine run basically. It services one small mine on medium and a rather large strip mine. The last few weeks I have been working on the track going to the strip mine.

This is where track going to this mine bears off to the right.

This is another angle of basically the same place . The locomotive you see in the back ground is H8 #1659. It is in the hidden yard. This new track was an after thought. But it is slowly working out very good.

I have also been doing some grunge work -- ballasting track. I do not enjoy ballasting track, so it is taking awhile to get this done. I also have been working out building and track arrangement for the auto plant. I think I have finally hit upon something I like.

Well actually this was one of my first rules when I started this layout back in 1996. Then again in 96 I was healthy and planned on adding to the building my layout is in. Life takes unplanned turns, so either you go with it or you don't. I am going with it and adding track where ever I can without getting stupid. I would love to add a 12X14 expansion. I think that would be sufficient for what I would like to do. Maybe some day someone will feel charitable. My original plan was a 12X40 foot addition

My latest work.
Years ago I acquired a throttle from the estate of one of our Platelayers. I didn't have a spot for it then and it is partly open with rather thin wires.
Last month we replaced a light fixture and it had 3 transformers in it producing 12V. So I bought a project box and some other bits and started.
The face of the throttle.

Sad Sad I got everything put together today, plugged it in and nothing. The .5 amp main use had blown. I replaced it with a 2 amp and blew it again. That's what I get for not testing as I went along -- but the 110V wiring was the last thing to be done.
Well, there's 2 more transformers ...

It is turning out nicely. I've grown to where I kind of like doing ballast, but I've also got all the little ditches and stuff around the tracks, so it is a bit creative, doing the ballast, and various textures of dirt. Plus, it is certainly looking and feeling like a big step has been taken as the ballast goes down.

The shack is done, approximately 8.75 sq inches of surface ( after subtracting the windows, door,and vents )
at 72 shingles/sq inch, 600+ shingles, and 300+/- pieces of lumber in the docks, later...... this project is here now.
   
The 1/4" plywood "base", had the printout of the dock plan w/piling positions taped to it, then the holes were drilled for the pilings, and the docks constructed. The docks and structure, will be removed from the base, and the base then becomes the drilling jig for the water surface on the modules. Those holes will then be opened up to a "snug, press-fit", and the docks will be secured to the water. Then, I can attach the shack, and "details" ( lobster pots, pot markers,spare cordage,anchors and assorted "junk" ).

No, you "may" not--------------- :oops: Oh Man!!!, it is May, and "cinco de Mayo" at that !!! I really have to stay away from these "layout" parties !! Eek Icon_twisted

The "dock" has been removed from the base, it's time to drill some holes in the layout's "water".
We always learn far more from our own mistakes, than we will ever learn from another's advice.
The greatest place to live life, is on the sharp leading edge of a learning curve.
Lead me not into temptation.....I can find it myself!
