Peeling Paint Effect
#1
This is an Sn3 Rio Grande Models kit of an RGS tool car that I built for my Catskill & Ramapo RR. I wanted to paint it and weather it, but wanted to take it one step further. The 'rubber cement' technique is really easy to use and results in an out-of-the-ordinary look for model weathering. I first painted the wood model grey; this color is the base that will be exposed as weathered wood where the paint had peeled off. Next, I added dabs and strips of rubber cement in the areas that I wanted to have exposed. After the rubber cement dried, I painted the car in its final color and allowed the paint to thoroughly dry. Next, I took a blade and tweezers and pulled the cement off exposing the 'greyed-out' wood. The final step was to add weathering powders to tie it all together. Looks good and easy to do!
