Be nice if we knew when and where..

I suspect the Kentucky Derby train may be one trip through my area.

I doubt if they could keep 765 a secrete in this day and age of instant communications..

They tried secrecy when 765 went to cuyahoga valley scenic railroad..I knew roughly when she left Ft.Wayne and about what time she would arrived in Bellevue thanks to the internet, pms, phone calls and text messages on my cell.

The deal is that NS will announce the details. It is their show. They did approve of the limited announcement on the website.

These things are easy to keep secret...in advance. You limit the knowledge to just the board members. Yes, all railfans in the Ft.Wayne area knew about her break in run in 2006 as of that morning...but the lack of advance warning kept the crowds limited to those within easy driving distance. It is a pain for railfans, but good for relations with the railroads. Big railroads HATE big crowds...and so the routes (which can change even after departure) are rarely ever published in advance.

This summer will be the best 765 chasing since 1993...possibly the best ever.

I wouldn't count on a Derby train...

Michael,NS tried several tricks to keep 765's ferry move to CVSR a secrete and failed at the task after all instant communications can lay waste to a lot of "secrete" plans. There was a nice "welcoming" crowd at Bellevue for a week day.

I was told 5 weeks ago "NS may be running a steam locomotive in this area".Looks like my informant came through again.

I don't think the itinerary is set as of yet. Ironically, the local trainmasters sometimes know about the deadhead moves before word makes it to 765...

Railroad employees are still the best "go to" people for answers..Last summer I was told the "brass will be rolling through next Tuesday(I forgot the exact day) around 9 o'clock"..Sure enough the business train rolled through on its way toward Conway.

I'm sure that wasn't on any train sheet that far in advance.Even when I worked on the railroad we knew ahead of time of special moves.

I'll never forget the time the conductor said "Larry,we will meet the steam train and the Ashand Steel train(I forget the train number) at Garrison"..I knew the 614 was due out of Cincinnati but, never expected to meet it in Garrison.
