September, 1976. Adding some help at East Palestine, Ohio. This may be a case of cutting off the power from the following train to help this train up the slight grade west of town. At the time the speed limit was only 10MPH due to the poor condition of the track. 
     I remember hearing a train call the dispatcher to tell him they were stalled on this grade. He asked them if they could back up and make a run at it. The engineer politely asked how much of a run could he get at 10 MPH.

It was a former Erie Lackawanna locomotive, Built in 1967 so after the 1961 merger of the DL&W and Erie. They were brute looking with the large fuel tanks and the steam generator.
