Help reading Track Diagram

I made five phone calls to modelers in Marion and none could recall passenger trains on the Dayton Branch. Sadly the most knowledgeable Erie, Erie-Lackawanna modeler had a second stroke and is in a nursing home.

Thank you for your help Larry! It seems we have reached a conclusion. 5 modelers, a tower operator testimony, an official Erie Magazine article and 3 decades of timetables all agreeing, hard to beat!! But I can't stop wondering why Erie and CCC&StL bothered to keep their double track agreement for so long when the traffic didn't warrant it...

Now, the last question is knowing what kind of steam power was assigned on the branch in the late 1940s. I contacted ELHS about that. Hope they have some useful information.

Matt, I suspect Erie used 2-8-0s or 2-8-2s on the branch as well as a RS2 from time to time.

Larry, you would make a great detective. They indeed used RS3 and according to a 1932 Assignment of Power chart, 2-8-0, 2-8-2 and 4-6-2 were mainly used. I have seen pictures of 4-6-2 pulling the way freight. Given Erie didn't acquired new steam locomotives past that point (or at least that could have been used on that branch), they were likely still in service by the late 1940s when RS3. The H21 class 2-8-0 could easily be kitbashed using Bachmann 2-8-0. Their 2-8-2 were the N-1 class, an old class preceding the USRA Mikado. Finally, the K4b class 4-6-2 can be done by bashing a USRA Light Pacific. K5 Class would be easy since it's a mighty USRA Heavy Pacific though I've not seen any picture on it on the branch yet. It's quite a blessing all these models can be easily bashed with readily available models and they all have the big steam attributes without being monsters.
