Thanks for posting this Canadian classic---it's a H6 "ten-wheeler".These locomotives were found throughout Canada and were a common sight in my hometown during the steam era---I'm sure my Father would have been a regular crewman on these steam engines.

That 5699 is interesting. I've seen photos of the Pennsy locomotives with the Cappirotti poppet valve gear (as noted in the hand-written note), but I thought they were driven via a shaft connected to the eccentric crank end. The upper photo looks (externally) more like the Franklin gear later used on the T1s. 

In any case, what caught my eye was not the valve gear, but the extended smokebox housing what appears to be a Worthington SA feedwater heater. That really changes the look of the locomotive!
