In model railroading, there are between six and two hundred ways of performing a given task.
Most modellers can get two of them to work.

Yeah, that's the other one that popped up from time to time. Here it is on my old layout back in 2003 when I was just getting started:

To continue with my challenge, we've (me and a bunch of those little guys), have done some prep work. The pad for the freight station has been poured and the drive areas have been paved. Across the tracks, the parking lot for the passenger station has been excavated. Seems like the town council opted for concrete instead of asphalt when they realized they could put parking meters in the lot generating enough cash to allow them to hold an occasional meeting in the Bahamas. Not very pretty, but it is progress.

One more step, the freight depot is planted and somewhat detailed. Got some cleaning up to do, maybe get a bit of greenery around and for sure, clean up the tracks and ballast.  Also time to wire in the lights for both stations.

Yup, moving right along. I'm not sure if I can say that I'm finished, but I don't know too much more than I want to do. Note the absence of vehicles, parking lot is empty.  The official reason is that nasty pandemic thing, but the real reason is that most of my vehicles look like plastic toys, I don't have too many with any details. Need to look though Walther's and order some, so for now, I'd rather have the lots empty than put chunks of molded plastic around simulating cars.

Thanks Tom, I'm never sure just how good things look to others. After working on something for a while, all you tend to see are the flaws that you should have fixed before taking photos.  The main thing is that I did "do something", regardless of how good or bad it turned out.

Well Don, it looks good to me, too, and I keep seeing the flaws in my own work.  Sometimes we're our own worst critics.

You guys hit the nail square on the head with our tendencies to over judge our own work and never dwell on what we have accomplished. If I had a dollar for every time I have done that I would be living in Bora Bora. The problem is when you allow that self criticism stop you from continuing on. This is why I like this challenge because all you have to do is something.

That has to be true, remember the old saying, "Familiarity breeds contempt"?. Well, in our case, it's not contempt as much as "familiarity sees imperfections others don't". I doubt that we are every truly 100% happy with our results, but we are what we are and all we can ask is that we do our do our best, flaws and all are then acceptable...

I realized that now that we have a station, there's no place that they can get a bite to eat, so right across the street is a converted caboose serving meals 24/7. Again, the parking lot is empty, not that the food isn't good, it's just that the locals lack decent transportation for now. There is a tiled area in back that we might convert to outdoor dining once the weather warms up.
