Question about MTH
#1
I have searched the now useless google for help with MTH terminology to no avail.

I just got an SD70ACe in HO scale and it is DCC/sound equipped with their system. It runs and works well but programming is a little bit different.

I am trying to set the ACC and DCC rate  to zero as I do all my locomotives.  Can anyone tell me what PWM mode is on these machines? I think it has something to do with the motor control but I don't like to guess.

No MTH knowledge, sorry Charlie. I guess you can't just set CV03 and CV04 to zero to override MTH parameters?

The instructions say to set CV 52 to PWM before you can set these perimeters. I did not want to enter this until I knew what it was. It most likely is Pulse Width Modulation but it would be nice if the instructions took the time to write it out. DCC is not hard but understanding instructions at times ia a real challenge. I will go ahead with it and hope there is a reset somewhere if I mess up.  More to come.

Well, CV52 is a lighting affect setting, so I think you should be good.

Their CV's are their own version.  Some are the same but I think before an automatic change a check of the list is required. There are a lot of functions that are automatic, and a lot of features that I will never use. I got a good buy on this unit so I will learn some of the features I will use. So far my favorites are the ones made by Intermountain, and Bachmann makes a nice unit too, more detailed than the Walthers and Athearn DCC ready.

Charlie,

Aha!  Well, based on what I'm seeing, if CV52 is 0, you can use CV03 and CV04 to set your acceleration and deceleration rates to 0.  You can activate CV52 by setting it to 1, and use the MTH CV53 and CV54 instead.  Looks like the advantage might be more granularity in the speed settings, but if you're typically setting those to 0 anyway, there's no advantage.

Actually setting CV52 to 1 allowed me to set them to zero. Then I suspect there are no flywheels because when the Dec was set to zero it stopped abruptly. I set it to 3 and it works better. I am afraid consisting this will be a nightmare so as nice as it is I will avoid any more MTH unless they can be stolen. I have not figured out everything about DCC yet and I have been at it for 14 years.  I am satisfied with the 10 functions easily used on my throttle without using the shift key.  I think my phone app may allow direct entry to more functions but I haven't used it enough to remember what they are.
Anyhow, I am able to run it so that is fine for now.

Good deal! Trial and error wins AGAIN!
