After a 15 year plus hiatus from this hobby I'm jumping back in. No layout plans as yet, but I model the NWP, SP and WP in HO scale. I'm old school, and plan to stay with straight DC, especially since my collection is mostly blue box Athearn, and some older Kato. My favorite part of the hobby is locomotive re-powering and detailing. When I finally build a layout it will be based upon operations in Northern California...mostly north of Sacramento and Santa Rosa. Glad to have found this forum...

Hi everyone

Thought I'd come join in the fun on the forum. My name's Simon I'm a professional modelmaker & I've been building brass locomotives in 0 scale for many years.

I'm from over the pond in Yorkshire, England & after many years modelling UK prototypes I want to dip my toe in American 0 scale. I've always liked American diesels especially the Southern Pacific & more recently Norfolk Southern.

My plan is to make a small switching layout with a 20 year time frame so I can run most models. I've currently got some freight cars by Weaver & Atlas & some diesels from Overland, Weaver & Atlas.

Hopefully I can show some of my work this next year & learn some new things in the process.

Cheers

Hi all,

My name is Yannis, new member here from Greece. I have been previously reading this forum and ,better late than never, decided to join the community!

I am modeling the ATSF in the mid to late sixties (1964 to 1967), on the Surfline in HO scale. I am currently building a 13' x 15' temporary layout (folded dogbone, stacked loops, operated point to point). I call it temporary and training layout since i realized that its better to start from scratch in a new permanent house without perpetuating past layout design mistakes. Therefore i left any aspirations of moving this layout aside (which fits this space nicely though), and decided to continue building it anyway for practice/training purposes. Having something else to look forward to which will encompass many of the things i have learned so far, i have already designed the permanent layout for the (when the time comes) next permanent house (point to point design with continuous run option if needed).

In addition to model railroads i am also building 1/48 U.S. aircraft models. Anyhow, glad to have become a member, and i am looking forward to learn and contribute from/to the community.

Hello! My name is Aaron and I am getting back into the hobby after over a decade away. I have been dabbling since January, having brought back a box of my old stuff after the holidays. Turns out it's really relaxing to focus on building a model, which is probably news to none of you [emoji1]

I have been working on a couple of diesels, a Kato GP35 and a Walthers SW1. The switcher is much farther along, a freelance unit that I can have fun with and build some skills before tackling the prototype model. Here's where it's at so far

Eventually I would like a room sized layout and I have a working concept so that I can start building a collection of 'stuff.' The long term goal is a short line connecting 3-4 industries to the BN in the late 70's/early 80's. The setting is the PNW so I can have fancy switchers as road power, along with F-units and Alcos at the interchange. SP and WP run throughs also appeared at that place and time.

The short line will serve a brewery/malting operation, a feed mill and an aggregate mine. I would like to put a cement plant at the interchange. While I don't have an extra room, I do have space for a 16" x 70" ISL with option for an add on lead/fiddle track. I'm playing with the idea of using that entire space for the brewery with a Timesaver type track plan. It would make a nice 'end of the line' someday with a passing siding replacing the fiddle track. I think detailing that module and enough equipment to operate it would be a nice starting place.
I am starting out on a shortline layout,no name yet, but I have a couple of Louiseville & Nashville loco's so that may give you some clues as to location. The track plan was drawn up by Shortliner. I've started laying out the track and it will be DCC with servo's for the turnouts.I'm getting the hang of some language terms I think. Size isn't huge, long side 10 feet overall and the "L" is 4x2 feet. The Domestic Authorities decreed that the railway ( or in this case, road) should be in a separate room,so a 10x6 foot building was put up in the garden. Looking forward to this.Never built an American layout before. Regards.

Hello, I'm a new member of this forum, my name is Serge and I live in St-Lazare Qc, about 30 min. west of Montreal and about 45 min from Hawkesbury Ont.

My main interest is modeling an Ho scale 12x13 transition freelanced layout.
At the age of 6, I received as a Christmas gift an O gauge Lionel train set, kept it for quite a few years, built a 4x8 layout with real dirt and rocks including my Eldon race track set.

I started HO model train modeling in December 2009 after I gave up Discus fish breeding.

For the moment my layout does not have any landscaping, the reason being is that it will be moved to an other location in the basement in a couple of years from now.
I have quite a few buildings on my layout, mostly plastic kits, I have one Craftsman kit and intend to build a few more.
Most of my buildings have lighting ,shadow boxes and some have interior scenes.
I will eventually post some photos of my buildings.

A special thanks to Dr. Wayne who encouraged me to visit this forum, I was really impressed with the pertinence of the posts and available information on the forum.

Thank you for letting me join this forum and I hope I will eventually meet other fellow modelers to exchange ideas, visit layouts, swap stuff etc,
I'm quite alone in my neck of the woods, luckily I have my wife who supports and encourages me in perusing my accomplishments in this wonderful hobby.

Have a nice day.

Hello from Australia, my name is David, I have been involved in model railroading for about 50 years but dont consider myself to be a quality modeler, I guess its because I dont have an artistic bone in my body

I am a total Penn Central nut and love those big black locomotives, no matter what locos I buy they all get the same black spray job and PC decals, that includes some locos that never ran on the PC.

I model to please myself and have a ball doing what I do, both my N and HO scale layouts are small, totally fictitious but look a little like Pennsylvania, my dream is to visit the Station Inn at Cresson PA, I hope to learn and where possible contribute on this forum

Hello, nice to meet you all here.
My name is Mike and I am here to learn and to show off what I have done in various scales of modeling.
My family has been building O scale structures for close to 20 years, we sell mostly on Ebay these days but we used to attend the York show before it got crammed into one or two halls.
I myself build in HO, although I do not have a functioning layout yet, sorta like the shoemaker who has no shoes. My user name is the reporting mark of my railroad, the Lehigh and Great Lakes, and the number of my first decent kit bash locomotive, a 2-6-6-0.
As I said before, I would love to learn more advanced methods of building in various scales. Even though I haven't been as active lately on working on my projects, I do intend to get back to work on them soon. Currently, I am in college for CADD, computer aided drafting and design, and whatever I learn there I hope I can apply to the family business.
I have many HO projects on the go, all of them revolving around motive power, might even be possible I have too many projects on the go.
