There are three things we normally ask you to do when you’re having problems logging on to Big Blue, or having some difficulty doing something here. We suggest that you try clearing the following:

Cookies remember that you’ve asked to remain logged on and it remembers what posts you’ve already viewed.
Cache remembers the content of pages that you’ve viewed and will load them or parts of them sometimes in order to save time since some things on a site may not change from one session to another.
History is a list of sites that you’ve visited and links that you’ve clicked on.

It is always a good idea to allow cookies on your computer since you may not be able to see all of the contents of some sites, and not be allowed to participate in a discussion or be allowed to post messages. Many sites, like Big Blue remember if you’ve asked to remain logged on and it remembers what posts you’ve already viewed. That information is kept on your computer as “cookies”, not on Big Blue.

Occasionally, things on Big Blue appear as not to update. Your, “cache” or, “temporary internet files” on your computer may be sending you old data and not updating from our web site.

When strange things happen, like not being able to stay logged on, or not seeing the latest updated threads, we normally suggest clearing, "History", Temporary Internet Files (cache)" and "Cookies and Website data". The names are different with some browsers, but the functions are the same. This will mean that you will lose all your log-in info from all the sites that you've been logged onto, but doing this may solve your problem.

As a family-oriented forum, we strive to keep our topics and wording such that you wouldn't care if your mother or your pre-teen daughter came here to read your posts. We do not want to discourage anyone from posting just about anything, even off-topic stuff, but note the word "just". After all, we are like family here, but just to keep things from getting out of hand, or becoming offensive to a bunch of us, here are a few things to watch out for before posting:

Topics about religion and politics usually wind up in a shouting match, with no winners. Try to avoid these subjects, for no matter how innocent they start out, they always wind up in the tank and usually with some hurt feelings.

Try to avoid words of a sexual or profane nature, even obscure ones. We have filters that catch a lot of common ones and replace those words with **** or another word that you probably didn't want, but we can't filter those that we don't know. If you post one that is suspect, we'll look it up, and add it to our list of banned words if necessary.

Do not try to avoid this by using symbols in place of letters. Our moderators here will catch you and they will edit or delete your post.

Do your best to not hijack a thread. It's not uncommon to take a thread in a different direction, but you can always start a new thread if your post is totally out of the ballpark from the topic being discussed.

We will always let you know if we've edited or deleted your post or ask you to do it, and we'll tell you why. Don't feel badly if that happens to your post, it's nothing against you personally and we may be erring on the side of caution. Let us know if you don't agree. We have a reputation for being a forum where anyone can come without feeling offended, embarrassed or not welcome. That's lasted now for over ten years and we're proud of that record. We are pleased with the quality of modelers and train enthusiasts that we attract here and we want to keep all of you coming back. We have all made new friends as well, and that means a lot to us all.

Some of you might hesitate to create a poll because you've never done it before, but it really is quite simple. When you start a new thread by clicking on "new topic", you can compose your message as normal, then go to the bottom of the screen. You will see three tabs, "options", "upload attachments and "Poll creation". Click on the last tab. You will need to enter the question, say for a photo poll, ask, "which photos do you like best", so something like that. Below that, you need to list your options. The simplest way would be to list all the names you have choices for, putting a carriage return after each name. Adding links to the name becomes more complex and I'll show you how to do that in another post. You can have up to 20 options in a poll. If you need more than that, let me or Mikey know and we can change that.

After that, you will have to say how many choices each voter has. If one, put "1" in the "options per user" box. If it's OK to vote for more than one option, put that number in that box. You cannot have a larger number than options though. Lastly, you should set a length of time the poll should run by putting the number of days in the appropriate box. The poll will automatically close at that time. The "allow re-voting" box doesn't seem to matter whether it's checked or not, that function doesn't seem to work right now and we don't know why. Once your poll has been created, just click on "submit" the way you normally would. You can edit a poll in the same manner you would edit a post, and you have one day to do that before that function closes.

Welcome to our new home!!!!!!

Ezdays and I would like to thank you for coming over and looking in on what we have done. We have been following the farewell posts some of you have been making at Zealot and we thank you for your kind words.

This board is a "New labor of Love" for the hobby and the members.. and of course, all of the volunteers.

When Peter sold Zealot to Crowdgather, we expected changes to be made, however we never expected "all the changes" that were made and we truly have no idea what they could be planning in the future. As volunteers, we could choose to leave if we wanted to, --- we wanted to!!!

Obviously, by now, you realize that our farewell posts are standard "goodbyes", we can not post anything about this board, on their board - which is why we could not answer your questions about "Why". It's not right to do that in any circumstances.

For those of you that have been long time gauge members - you will remember "Big Blue", the way it was 3 or 4 years ago... We tried to re-create it here.

Yes it was called The Gauge, but Crowdgather purchased that too... Don & I bought the domain name, but we prefer to be known as Big Blue for both convenience and nostalgic reasons.

Thanks for stopping in.
