After 20 years creating and maintaining this website Wilco van Schoonhoven has retired from doing it. With the help of a few people Wilco gave us a the whole website and permission to put it up. It is now part of the ShinyScript.com

Bridge replacement -- Guelph

They are rebuilding the railway bridge in downtown Guelph. I'm not sure what the full project is, but they started by replacing some girders at the east end over Elizabeth St.
The bridge looks designed to support double track but only completed for single. I think Go Transit is going to double track the line. The streets in the area are being closed on weekends for work. This is right beside where 6167 is displayed.

Nelson and Kaslo British Columbia

This past weekend I spent in Nelson, BC with a side trip to Kaslo. I thought I might share some pictures if people are interested.

Nelson still has it's very handsome CPR train station. It's now their visitor information center. It would be a bit large to model it on an average layout but you could compress it and still get the same feel.

One of the last Fairbanks-Morse H16-44 and from my understanding the last CFA16-4, A C-liner. This was one of my reasons for travelling to Nelson. I always wanted to see one of these up close.

Ontario Southland Railway

The Ontario Southland Railway is an active short-line railroad located in south-western Ontario approximately an hour and a half from my hometown.The main shop is located in Salford Ontario.It's a rail-fans dream road as the motive power for the OSR consists of many first generation diesels including F9 cab units,GP7's,SW1200 RS switchers and many MLW/ALCO models.The shop is like a museum and the staff have always been very receptive to the fans taking photos.Bruce,Wayne and I visited the site around a year ago and took many pictures.I recently came across an un-named photographer's picture of one of the road's SW1200RS that received a very attractive paint job.

On November 14, 2020 Canadian National Railway 6167 was moved from its home by the Guelph Central Station to John Galt park, to make way for the expansion of the GO train station.I wish I had been in Guelph to witness the move but I found these pictures capturing the action.

Current freight traffic

Since I'm a little limited in terms of my usual activities, I was thinking of doing more rail-fanning. Just wondering if freight/rail traffic is higher than usual at the moment, especially on CP? You'd think it would be with trucking traffic being busy right now as well as so many emergency supplies being shipped around.

It would be fun to safely position myself on a bridge, socially distanced, etc. and enjoy the trains.

Question for travelling within Montreal to see Exporail

I'm planning to visit Exporail during the morning / early-afteroon of Saturday October 28. I will be staying right downtown in Montreal (taking my son to another event) and I want to find out if I can take an AMT train from the downtown. I understand that there is a commuter train that leaves from Lucien-l'Allier Station to Delson but -- as far as I can find out from the website -- it doesn't seem to run on weekends. Does anyone know if that's the case?

BTW, we haven't decided yet if we are going to take a VIA Train into Montreal or not. (We'd be driving in from Toronto.) If we do, I will obviously be limited to public transit. However, even if we drive, I'd still prefer to take the AMT train if it's running.

Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The Royal Train (1939)

Hi all.
I am thinking of getting Rapido's (blue) Royal Hudson when the date is announced. I am having a hard time finding out about the rest of the consist of that train. It is probably just because I am asking the wrong question of Google, however, if someone could point me in the direction of such info, it would be greatly appreciated.

Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario

Well, my wife and I were en route to Ottawa to pick our son up from Cadets Training Camp. The railway museum at Smiths Falls, Ont. was practically on the way so we stopped there for a visit. Really enjoyed it, nice collection and lots of history.

Pleased to hear that they occasionally offer rides behind their vintage diesel and in their restored cabooses (vans). Will have to plan a return visit on one of their special events.

Have other folks here visited this location? Interested to compare notes.

I do not get out as often as I would like to photograph my favorite subject but when I do I will post here and i'll add some of my older shots. On Saturday July 11, 2015 my son and I visited the Salem and Hillsbourgh Railway museum in Hillsbourgh, N.B. The museum used to run an excursion train but insurance costs shut down that part of the museum. They have a variety of equipment that is in good to poor condition which unfortunately is an issue for most museums.

First up is CN RSC-14 1754. This unit was used on PEI from 1975 up until abandonment in 1989. After the railway on PEI was shut down the unit bounced back and forth between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia on CN and was finally leased to the newly formed Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia Railway until it was retired and donated to the S&H. It had been painted in Red, black and white S&H livery but was repainted in the last scheme it wore as a CN unit.

Engineers POV. These units (1750-1787) were operated as long hood forward.

S&H 8245 ex CNR MLW S-12 8245 similar to an ALCO S4 internally but with a different cab and hood.

Hello Everyone---after almost 5 years (WOW),I thought many members were getting tired of Part 2.Thank you for all the views and comments,I really do appreciate your support.No big changes for Part 3,just a fresh start to showcase some of the rail-fanning activities from my hometown---hope you enjoy and thanks again for viewing this thread.

The first day of summer has an annual gathering of rail-fans at Hamilton's Bayview Junction,the tradition goes back over twenty years.I decide to attend this year for the first time.When I arrived around 8:30 this morning there were about 30 "foamers" on the Laking Gardens bridge---looks like many of these fans were making it a full day,complete with deck chairs and coolers.I only stayed for an hour or so but was able to catch some action---actually the ride home was more rewarding as I caught more action around Stuart St. and CP's Kinnear Yard

The CP Christmas train has a very broad schedule with many stops in the US including Minnesota (Ralph) and Steamtown as well as Hamilton, Windsor and Toronto.
