I'm not a complete newbie. About 15 years ago, I was going to make a run at this. Did a lot of research, even managed to build a few structures. But, life got in the way. Hopefully this winter, I'll start putting up some benchwork.

The plan is an around-the-walls N scale layout in a spare bedroom (about 10x13). I want to model 1953, the transition era, so I can have my favorite engines: steam and early diesel. I've created my own freelance railroad, the history of which I'll post in my official build thread. I suppose the N scale forum is the right spot for that.]]>

I model the "Rainbow Years" of Conrail in the Lehigh Valley Gorge - former bankrupt railroads amalgamated by the U.S. Gov't.  All diesel, nothing under wire, no diesels newer than 1975. 
Who would have thought that eventually this monstrosity could turn a profit and get sold off to CSX and NS?  

My formative years were spent in the Poconos of Pennsylvania where I regularly saw the mainline of the Erie Lackawanna and could travel south and see the Lehigh Valley, the Reading and the Penn Central.  I could travel west and find the Delaware and Hudson.  Then (eventually) came Big Blue and many changes in rail lines near my home.

Track is laid and I've been running trains for more than 10 years while I add scenery bit by bit and do things like weather my fleet.

I like to share techniques and learn from mistakes - thought joining this site might be useful for both!]]>

Today is a different story, we want to remember and we certainly don't want anything like this to happen again, but we are no longer acting as one nation. We are all in little groups, no flags allowed, take a knee during the Nation Anthem, stick our heads in the sand when we get picked on, blame everyone in the past for what's happening now and find fault with everyone that's trying to protect us. We seem to want to make excuses for everything and allow our enemies to run over us. We are tying the hands of those that want to defend us from the bad guys.

No, this is not a political statement but a reflection on how things have changed. It's just that it's upsetting to see that everyone in the world is looking at what's going on here in wonderment and more upsetting that we forget too easily. If you live in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, then stand up and shout, "I'm mad a hell and I won't take it anymore", then unite once again because there are those here that are uniting against us. I just hope it doesn't take another 9/11 to bring us back together like we were 20 years ago.]]>
