I started to modify the boiler. Most unwanted details have been filed down. Now redoing the piping per prototype.

Question:

I need a picture of the roof cab. CN Nutbar I would bet my shirt you have some! Thumbsup

For short line 2-6-0s, I still think the Bachmann is too big. Here is Mobile & Gulf 97 <a class="postlink" href="http://hawkinsrails.net/shortlines/mg/mg97.jpg">http://hawkinsrails.net/shortlines/mg/mg97.jpg</a>

Someone posted a lot of shots of Genesee & Wyoming 2-6-0s on the old Atlas forum; they're a little closer, but still I think smaller than the Bachmann.

M & G looks similar but is indeed smaller.

Katy is abot he same size, but would require a lot of bashing.

Soo Line had some Moguls which looked very similar to the Bachmann model.

M&G 97's appearance certainly belies her 1925 built date - I would have thought 1880s, with perhaps a newer cab added later. Evidently, she was built for service in Cuba.

Having a hard time finding good shots of late DL&W moguls on the net. From what I can see, they were all built as camelbacks, but some of the last ones were rebuit as end-cab locos, though apparently with slide valves or economy valve chests (like the B&M B-15 Dr Wayne showed). If I get time today, I may go through all my Richard Prince books.

Enough talk, time to show WIP pictures!

After filing down most useless details, I worked a little bit on the piping. I decided to keep cast-on sand lines. They are approximately at the right place and they looks rather good for cast-on details.

Blue masking tape was used to make the metal band on the boiler following Pat Durand's trick.

Checking my Bachmann Consolidation junk box from previous kitbashes, I found out their water line was an almost perfect fit for a 2-6-0. I recycled them and used electric wire to lengthen the condensate line. The metal wire is rather useful to pin and glue the parts together. I'll probably add anohter pin to align the water line near the cab.

Reworked the cab this afternoon according to prototype and CN Nutbar's pictures.

I only need to add the railing and new Archer decal rivets. I'll have to get some music wire and probably a few brass stanchions for that. I wish my ***** LHS would be decent enough to keep HO detailling parts in store. Anyway... 357

I also decided to reuse a Bachmann Consolidation Headlight. I drilled out the clear plastic and enlarged it a little bit. My idea is to insert a clear plastic rod that will catch light from the LED.
