Who's the manufacturer of the orange, cab, trucks on your layout? I have been looking for some of those in that color for my food processing industry.

Thanks,

Barry

@et all: Thanks for the kind and encouraging words.

Barry, they are Walthers Scenemaster trucks.

I did swap bodies and painted the box silver. So don't be confused if you can't find my exact models.

The old grain silo got weathered too.

I got new gray primer that is unintentionally very light colored. It is a nice peer color to the white grain service. The green stripe gives the two buildings it's own touch. Will see how to weather.
ps. I did not shake the green rattle can well enough and the paint was not mixed as it should this morning. I got a cloud of green dust without any binding material all over the building and my left hand. What a mess :x

Re: Freelance 2012 - Russ Bellinis - 04-24-2012

Does Pelle model urban scenery? I haven't seen his new book. Most of his modeling that I have seen is focused on either Mojave, Ca or the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Mojave is the Eastern portal to Tehachapi for those not familiar with California Railroading. His modeling is perfect for the subjects that he has chosen to model, but not appropriate for modeling an urban railroad setting. Lance's modeling is probably an excellent representation of the industrial section of Miami, (I've never been to Miami so I can't speak from experience), but it does not resemble Vernon, East L.A., or Commerce in California. I guess the point is that the prototype changes depending on where it is and when it was built and why it was built. Your scenery looks great. I would not worry about whether it is like Pelle's or Lance's scenery unless you are trying to model the same places that they model.

Hello Russ, Pelle wrote the book about the redoing of his desert layout. Nothing he does matched directly with Vernon, Commerce etc. but his techniques and the precision are impressive.

Reinhard,

With all the structures you have done the mill complex is my personal favorite, hope it stays around for some time. Thumbsup Icon_lol

jwb Wrote:...I would say that the areas behind stores, especially where you have these modeled, are going to be alleyways, which are usually asphalt paved. There will be dumpers and collections of crates and possibly other junk, also pallets, but random. You correctly have utility transformers -- you can do with several more utility poles here. ....

It took some time to get detail parts via USPS and DHL on my layout. But your recommendations have not been forgotten. I will continue to add more details and possibly some more weathering.

That's certainly a good start. For what it's worth, the June Model Railroader has a short feature on the backs of brick buildings, too.

Reinhard,

I really like the new details you've added on your buildings.
It brings more life in your scenery and it's possible to imagine what else could be behind the walls.

Re: Freelance 2012 - faraway - 04-29-2012

Thank you but it makes my crazy to see the buildings hovering over the ground. I did not imagine how very well visible it would be on photos when I built it. That is the negative aspect of rebuilding ever and ever again over the same base structure. The wood might be still flat but the cork layer is uneven from all the soaked water and glue forcing the thin blue foam layer into waves. I should have rebuild the ground down to the base wood under that long strip of structures or not glued them together to give each building the freedom to adjust to it's ground. Again a lesson learned...

Some more detail (hiding the gap). I had "a great time" to sort, cleanup and store all the small parts in small boxes...

Re: Freelance 2012 - faraway - 04-29-2012

Center beams have been on special offer at the LHS and I could not resist....
The two gray buildings with the green stripe (left background) will be completed with a background building where the rules stands (right background) to form the yard of a lumber using company. May be a small dealership, a wooden door and window plant etc. They get the lumber on center beams. The fist step is the center beam unloading area currently under construction.
The overall construction must be robust because this is a removable section in front of the door. The new building must be removable because that is the place to hold the segment with my hand.
