Thank you for the friendly comments.
That is as it looks today. The building sits in the ground cover and a string of utility poles has been added. I am very happy with the impression of the long running road and the matching background industry building. That sets the right proportions for 60' boxcars but even more it is the right scenery for a pair of Gensets.

The URL has a parameter (?t=1343024169). It is possible that that confuses SSWs browser, and that it doesn't recognize it as a JPG.

Same link without the parameter at the end:

Can SSW see that one?

Looking good Reinhard!

Re: Freelance 2012 - faraway - 07-25-2012

The background lot of the east industry has been cleaned up and is ready for some serious construction work. Straight track length to be used for loading docks etc. is 40" and total lot length is about 63".

With only the tracks it became apparent that the corner is simply overcrowded. The proportion of wide and length was to fat. It did not match a long road with long industry buildings. There are too much tracks in that corner. Lance and Pelle would probable put one track so two should be the maximum for me. Easy solution: remove one track and switch. That expands the useable track length to 51". Good enough for five 50' cars with two Genset.

This two buildings in Vernon at the south side of E.50 St. in the same block are under investigation to act as a some kind of prototype

However I do still have lack of a bright idea how to do the large window panes.

Long time ago I took thin acrylic glass and scribed the ribs in the glass. I used a water solveable color and colored the thin but raw scratches with a black paint, wiping the paint into the scratches by my fingers and did wipe off the paint from the glass. I think that I have got very good looking windows for large industrial buildings.

That sounds interesting. I did find some large industry window frames suitable but to fragile for a larger wall. May be I do it reverse and build the wall with the clear plastic sheets and glue the window fames as some kind of decoration on the clear plastic.

This is a test if the styrene can be glued to the clear plastic labeled "PVC". Looks good with Pattex Special Modellbau! (sorry no web page in english found except for SA but this one is not sold in SA). They claim it is a "normal" styrene glue/solvent plus some kind of CA glue. It comes in tiny 30g plastic bottles like the most styrene solvents do.

Re: Freelance 2012 - jwb - 07-26-2012

Don't neglect a team track, though:         One of the challenges in modeling is to balance visual effect with some kind of variety. A team track gives you the opportunity to spot a wide variety of cars, flats, gons, tank, box, etc., and I see no reason why you couldn't keep one of those as a team track, maybe adjusting the spacing slightly.

It also occurred to me that you can also use the street trackage for occasionally unloading heavy-haul loads like the Bachmann Schnabel car. The transformer would be loaded onto a highway heavy-haul trailer for final movement.

Well, a ramp for a team track would be great at the right space. Gary did a wonderful ramp on his huge layout.
Instead of adding things, this photo shows what I am thinking about....

Re: Freelance 2012 - faraway - 07-26-2012

I works fine to have the clear PVC as a base and glue the window frames, carton bricks and styrene strips on top. The stability is sufficient for a building wall. The element is 24" long with three loading docks.

Got some paint on the front side (was a nice masking game) and made it a shoe box with another kind of roof than usual.
