Re: Freelance 2013 - IndyCity - 05-26-2013

Reinhard,

I made an etching mask for my WSOR GP7u cab that fits for my P2K models.

Re: Freelance 2013 - IndyCity - 05-26-2013

Yes, Mark.

To solder it will be the best way..

Is there any way to get one of your cabs to USA? Have a P2K GP7 in Warbonnet that could use your Topeka cab. Have been waiting for "years" for this one:

Joerg, sorry for the late answer. Returned from vacation one hour ago.
That brass cab looks very good. Can it still be soldered with a solder iron (e.g.. ERSA RDS 80)?

Re: Freelance 2013 - IndyCity - 06-13-2013

80W might be enough, Reinhard.

Cause i have only a 30W one, I use the flame of a small welding pen for heating the larger parts.

Re: Freelance 2013 - faraway - 06-14-2013

First day back is first day model railroading Smile

Added decals, some painting details and a layer of dull coat. The dull coat worked quite well to blend the P2K original ATSF yellow with the rattle can yellow used for the cab and the low hood.

Excellent !

Re: Freelance 2013 - faraway - 06-15-2013

New BNSF GP7U switcher will be in service on Monday when the Kristal Klear lights complete the milk to glass transition.
Looking at the closeup photos is somewhat frustrating....

Looking good! Where did you get the handrails on the side of the short hood?
Here's some internet pix of your loco:

BTW getting a cab kit from your "neighbor" Joerg.

Re: Freelance 2013 - faraway - 06-15-2013

Andy, thank you.
The hand rails are the original P2K hand rails. Nothing has been changed.
The photos are the same I used. The key was to find a GP7U with that cab and no plated over dynamic break that has been in SoCal on duty. I think BNSF installed frequently replacement AC units on the roof and never cared about the color. There is a nice mix of new BNSF orange, old ATSF yellow, primer light gray and sometimes even black. Did you notice the ditch lights are primer gray only. They saved any cent and omitted the yellow or blue paint.
The brass cab is great. May be I do another GP7U but to make them look like the same engine model I will use the same parts as I did with this one. My GP7U with the round cab roof is not my favorite. I may try to disassemble it (breaking the glue.. :o ) and redo it with an angled cab.

Re: Freelance 2013 - IndyCity - 06-15-2013

Reinhard,

your GP7u is looking very good.

Wish my WSOR GP7u will be finished soon too.

Re: Freelance 2013 - faraway - 06-17-2013

The glue of the GP7U round roof shell was graceful and permitted disassembly without breaking any parts. That starts the next GP7U with angled roof build project.

My GP7-9 fan heart bleed seeing those nice curved roof cab gone, but my modeller heart knows it for the best.

Very nice work on them.
