Here is some of my close walls
Now here is the same flat mountain from a different angle.
It is approximately 1/2 inch thick
Same mountain different angle.
The first picture is not an angle you couldn't normally see as the camera is being held over the layout.
Here is block corner it is about 1 inch behind the track.
In this one the wall is about 1 inch or less from the track.
Before and after scenery.
It is all in what you are wanting to accomplish. I have used n scale houses and vehicles to get a forced perspective. Give it depth.
