I ordered two Atlas engines, due in "May 2010". I never bought a pre-order item, so I wonder, when will I really get them? Anyone have an experience with a pre-order with Atlas?

I have some engines on order due in January. My LHS told me Atlas has currently slipping most dates. No reason known on this side of the pond.

From what I've read...and I don't know if this is true or not...most of the manufacturers have a slow down around the first two months of the new year due to the Chinese new year. Seems most of the workers take time off and production slows to almost a halt, delaying most of the orders that were "due in" the first two or so months of the year. Again, I've read this over and over again (every year or so it seems) but I don't know if this is true or not. It just seems like every time I have things on order that are due in Jan, Feb or March, they get slipped to April. And with the engines I have on order now, that's just what happened, so maybe there's some truth to the "new year" slowdown.

And American bosses get mad if we take one day off to go fishing?

I only know what I know, and I don't understand very much of it, either.

I only have the one Atlas engine, a QSI-equipped FM H24-66. If Atlas is producing a model for you with the same quality and performance, I'd wait two years or more....personally.

I wouldn't doubt there's a hold on production until they have met a buyers quota, so they can make a benchmark profit. If it's not too much in demand and just enough people have preorder I would guess that it won't come out when they expect it to, holding off a little longer to maximize profit.
