I keep trying to win auctions on the bay for the Lionel "Husky" Lionel's gear drive version of the Athearn Hustler.I either get out bid or for get the ending time.

I originally tried to go that route but ran into similar issues. I tried the Ernst gearing, but I never liked the way it ran and the whole set up. So I tried something different. I used half an Athearn truck and hooked up a can motor to it for a drive train. I added a lot of weight to aid traction, along with a thin coat of silicone on the two drive wheels to give this critter some traction. It runs smoothly and can haul a few cars around. I use the second unit as a dummy which houses the decoder and act as extra electrical pickup. I may add the same drive train to the dummy unit for even more power.
