The following Tuesday I'm driving from Denver down to Pueblo, and plan to stop in Palmer Lake to wait for a few trains. Wednesday morning is another work obligation, but I hope to be trackside again that evening around Pueblo before driving back to Denver. Have another work obligation on Thursday, but should have most of Friday free for train-watching before flying home.
Should be a long coal train about every twenty minutes or so at Palmer Lake, if they're not all held up waiting for the junction to clear. Track goes from double to single at Palmer Lake.
There's a nice park there that allows up close railfanning in comfort, and a couple of restaurants as well.
