Mark, I have a John English tender for the Pacific, although it has no trucks. I've also removed, using a mill file, most of the protruding "coal" heap, as it was going to be converted to an oil burner many years ago.
I still have the locomotive, too, with Central Valley valve gear. It was converted somewhat for my freelance EG&E, and is currently in the shop for another makeover. Here's what it looked like before being taken apart for the latest rebuild...

I dug out the old tender for the photos shown below, and noticed that I've also filed-off the cast-on ladder and rivet details from the rear of the tender, too.
