-Atlas has/had a few '78 cars.
-"Trident" had made some 80's Pickups and Vans. Trident is now Roco as far as I know.
-Since you model West coast /SF area you might consider using a few Volvo's or VW Rabbit (Golf in Europe)
-Herpa had an early Jeep Cheerokee.
