I agree, Matt, he does a really good job of conveying atmosphere with a few brushstrokes, so to speak. One detail that conveys the modern period (are we up to Epoche VI yet in Europe?) is traffic cones. Pretty much anything someone might conceivably trip over on railroad property is now marked with traffic cones, and vehicles now usually carry them to put out when they park.
JL Innovative Designs makes some, and Bachmann is apparently going to come out with some with the reflective bands.
