Perhaps it is just me, I do not like this paint scheme, the main dislike I have on this one is the red roof bit, I like the red pilot thoughl. I would have loved it if they'd done something like the bi-centennial paintschemes of the 70's. Those were tasteful, but patriotic schemes. Or kept this unit blue and black (the blue reminds a bit of Conrail , and would have preferred that red roof blue...)
it is a very noble cause though, so from that perspective I applaude the NS.

You have to understand, here in the USA, red, white and blue together just eludes being patriotic. They needed a touch of red somewhere to complete the scheme. I would be proud to have one of these on my layout regardless of how they painted it, because, as you say, it is a very noble cause.
