The A1 designation was used at least twice: Gresley's original Pacifics and Peppercorn's. I don't remember if Tjompson used it for any of his. Gresley's A1s became A3 when they were re-boiled with higher pressure; the few unchanged ones became A10 when the Thompsons came out.

Yes, I believe those are good manufacturers. It's great that Dapol still manufactures in Britain -- good for them !

Every now & then I get tempted to switch to N for space reasons but I don't think I could get "budget approval" to start messing with another scale!
