Rail road site
#11
I have to say I prefer unscreened sites. I'm most interested in railfan photos as a historical record, so I want photos of older and interesting subjects, whether or not they're good quality. Yes, unscreened sites will thus accumulate a great excess of photos of the current and ordinary, but so will screened sites. The main reason I end up using RailPictures most is its (relatively) convenient search function. For the types of pictures I want, RR Picture Archives and http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/ are more useful, but the latter has no search at all. RailPictures has been getting better on older photos - they used to not even have a "1950s" category at all.
Fan of late and early Conrail... also 40s-50s PRR, 70s ATSF, BN and SP, 70s-80s eastern CN, pre-merger-era UP, heavy electric operations in general, dieselized narrow gauge, era 3/4 DB and DR, EFVM and Brazilian railroads in general... too many to list!
