Your last link reminded me of an email I got from my uncle last week. I think it happened somewhere up near Oregon.
Here is what happens when a remote controlled loco in the middle of the train doesn’t get the command to shut down.
The remote controlled locomotives, typically with six axels, are placed in the middle of long, heavy trains to provide power without putting to much power at the front or both ends of the train.
In this case, one of them didn’t respond to the stop command when the rest of the train was stopped.
