Peanuts
#1
Just watched a special on peanuts, and it's ideal for a modeler who wants a compact layout with industries and switching.

First step: peanuts are harvested and transported to the buyer collection point, where they are tested, graded, dried if necessary, and then bagged for sale.

From there, they are transported to a "blanching plant", where they are cooked and rebagged.

Their final step is to a processing plant, in this case for peanut butter, but they could go to numerous other facilities to be processed further into the end product, and then

Off to market.

Turns out Georgia grows half of all the peanuts produced, and it's a huge business, so pick a time when rail was king and happy modeling. Oh, BTW, rails were in evidence everywhere in the special, running to and past every step of the operation.
