There were 4 ferries over time:
DF (Dampferje - Steam Ferry) Rjukanfos (Rjukan Falls) - named for the waterfall producing electricity for the industries
DF Hydro - named for the company that owned the industries in the valley - sunk in 1944 to stop the Germans from getting heavy water for atomic research
DF Ammonia - named for one of the core products of the company and
MF (Motorferje - Motor Ferry) Storegut - meaning "big boy"
